top of the "Bootheel"

Sikeston is not the "top" of the Bootheel. But I'd say northern Scott County is.

Basically draw a line from Benton to Poplar Bluff. The Bootheel is south of that.

Tardzana is also a climate alarmist. That’s a sign of many comprehension problems.

I live at the top of the "Bootheel" in southeast Missouri. Sikeston, "Home of the Throwed Roll" at Lamberts Cafe. Most people around here identify as "country", some of us considerer ourselves "southern'. 25 minutes from Tennessee, 20 minutes from Kentucky and less than an hour from the Arkansas border. It feels pretty southern around here!

Man. Sikeston is 100% the South. Not just "country"

Where I'm from in NWMO is "country". Y'all are full south down there

One reason I can think of is that they’re not in the southeast

I agree that Missouri is Midwest but Oklahoma is Southern, or Southwestern. Nobody from Oklahoma says they're in "the Midwest", in fact Kentucky is more "Midwest" than Oklahoma.

There plenty of people in Oklahoma who claim that Oklahoma is "midwest"...

Just not a majority. Especially the Tulsa and northern Oklahoma people.

I'd say northwest Oklahoma IS midwest if you consider Kansas midwestern.

To me there is a big chunk of Missouri that is Ozark style southern... it is just that not very many people live there.

Well, if you want to be technical the Bootheel is all of Pemiscot, most of Dunklin, and part of New Madrid Counties. But when you consider demographics and geography you can also include Mississippi, Scott, Stoddard, all of New Madrid, and some of Butler Counties too.

Missouri is mostly below the mason dixon line lol
Well, Columbia is 100% north of the MD line, so I've never thought they should be in the SEC.

Well, you are 100% wrong about that claim, so I've never thought you should post in this thread.

So Missourians are reduced to one of these 4 choices

Arguing about whether a portion of the state is below a 250 year old line commonly used to include Maryland in the definition of the south

Pointing out how civil war battles took place in the state or claiming they were somehow the exclusive purveyor of bushwacking activity and conflating slavery for southern culture

Quibbling about which of a few counties touching northeast Arkansas somehow counts for something

Accepting the OP premise backed by data

I see 3 specious arguments beguiling to people who dont understand the south at all and one group of nice cornfed midwesterners who obviously dont belong and aren't even trying. This may be stronger evidence than the original study!
