So, it is really UTA?

Revisiting a quote from a source last week: “Oklahoma & Texas have been in lock step from the beginning.” Source said schools contacted SEC in December & had already made up mind they were leaving Big 12

So does that mean they would buyout the remaining rights or wait until 2025

Neither. This is the first formal shot that will set off the scramble for other schools, especially in the Big 12, to look for new homes. It’s a brilliant strategy by OU and TU. As soon as two more B12 schools announce their moves, the B12 collapses and OU and TU move on to the SEC next year.

So big 12 is dead then. AAC gonna beef up an become power 5 or is it just gonna be 4 now?

It's going to end up as the power 3.5 IMO. The Big 12 teams that bring anything to the table will get picked up by the SEC, B1G, and Pac-12. Then enough of the ACC will end up being poached by the SEC and B1G to cripple them and they'll fold. The remnants of both will merge with the American, but it'll be 3-4 high revenue, large brand programs plus a bunch of metro commuter schools and not a true power conference.

I mean if this goes through great but who can ever take “the Red River Rivalry” serious again with all this going down with UT and OU in complete cahoots.

Don’t ever compare this game to the iron bowl

Have to imagine Big 12 folds rather rapidly with this now being official.

There’s the matter of the ironclad ACC GOR to contend with. Any poaching of the ACC will be very, very expensive.

Can't the pacwhatever take Texas. They can remain irrelevant there.

That bolded part of the statement is basically saying "don't be surprised when we kick rocks before the media rights expiration date."

Which is exactly why the OU/TX play is to say they will play through their rights through 2024 with no actual intention of doing so in the hopes the Big 12 dissolves before they'd have to pay out anything.

The entire point of OU/TX cahootery is to protect and preserve that very institution, genius.

First off, announcing a contract break isn’t wise. Second, officials from Oklahoma and Texas have buyouts that total nearly $150 million dollars. If they want to avoid paying more than $75 million each in exit fees, the schools’ best chance is to sit back, sing "Kumbaya" and wait to see if the Big 12 ends up dissolving. That strategy could save a lot of money.

Not my words but this makes sense.
