quote:Even though I've been to about 12 of these in person going back to when I was a kid, I've watched the last 6 on tv, and will do the same for this one. That said, having been to the game in person gives me an even greater appreciation watching on TV since I can feel the atmosphere through the screen. If the Cotton Bowl wasn't so historic (this game and one of the HBCU showdowns are literally the only football games played there) and on the state fair grounds while the fair is in full swing it wouldn't be all that special when it comes to neutral site games. Then there is the fact Texas/OU is the only neutral site game where tickets are sold from 50 yard line to 50 yard line instead of having a home and visitor side. OU always has the South side, Texas is North. For the players it's like going from a home game to away depending on which end of the field the ball is in play...and the players of both teams use the same tunnel for entrances.
I think game day experiences are over-rated, so you're barking up the wrong tree.
I much rather watch from home where I can sit in my AC, cook my own food, smoke weed as much as I want, get a nut off during halftime and watch multiple good games in comfort. The views on TV are much better, and I end up watching the jumbotron to get the same views.
I do miss the entire field view so I don't get to see stuff like wide open receivers and things off camera etc. So there are some downsides.
If I was a young guy still chasing poon around it might be a different story, but I'm an old dude who's been married over 30 years.
Not trying to take away from people who enjoy the gameday stuff, but I don't prefer it.
I'm sure the game will be on ABC, so I'll probably watch joking aside - and pulling for Oklahoma as usual.

Would love that honestly, but your SEC commissioner/ ESPN and the BIG's commissioner ruined the old Big 12 with their greed by raiding it. If Texas and OU went anywhere, they'd probably go to the BIG.

It’s so funny hearing horn fans try to convince other fans how great this “rivalry” is. Be honest with yourselves, you only care about this matchup 1 week out of the year. Unless you are from Dallas or live in Dallas you don’t interact with any OU fans period except for OU weekend. It’s only a rivalry because of the atmosphere at the Cotton Bowl with the State Fair. If this game was in Austin or Norman you wouldn’t give a shite about this game.
I went to the RRS back in 2021 and all of yall did was celebrate about going to the SEC together. Please stop trying to promote this game as some hostile environment that yall hate each other.

So just saying….
People can post NSFW toon dicks and that’s ok with the mods but if someone flashes a hot chick with boobs showing that’s a ban
Weird bend of the rules. Figures the steers would be the group to get away with it.

Regardless of what you think of the game it is the greatest venue. Those that have never been dont understand. The Cotton Bowl right in the middle of the texas state fair. Corn dogs, Funnel cakes, and fried oreos smells take over. The stadium split 50/50 and cheering and booing on every single play. The joy of walking out of there a winner. And the shame of sticking around the state fair after as a loser. It is awesome!

The Iron Bowl is still a ways off, but thanks man.

From Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium to the Cotton Bowl is 196 miles away. From Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, it's 191 miles. Texas State Fair is the largest fair in the world.

Historically speaking hard to see this rivalry as all that. For decades, these 2 teams were in different conferences. The Big 8 and SWC for so many years.
Historically speaking, I would say it was Oklahoma vs. Nebraska that captured the nation's attention. 1971 Game of the Century, for example. Speaking of Darrell Royal, I think he would say it was more Frank Broyles and Arkansas than Oklahoma in his day.
It only became all that when Nebraska took their talents to the B1G, and Oklahoma moved into the Big 12 and SEC. Now you sell the RRR like this grand version is all that has ever been. Hardly.

Another reason it's great, wrt past Big8, Big12, and SWC landscape. This game was and will be played regardless of conference alignments, even as it is today. This game will go on even if either or both team splits off to another conference or not.

Y’all are too gay to keep calling it the shootout. Go be gay somewhere else

Not really. Again, you want a great rivalry of its time; it was Oklahoma vs. Nebraska. Same conference. The Shorthorns were very much second fiddle to that rivalry in college football land.
BAMA has had Tennessee and the barn for decades; recently, LSU wants to claim their share of the Saban Bowl and ALABAMA. The game went nuclear because both teams had a ton of talent and were in the West division of the SEC. They have some claim as far back as Cholly Mac; those games were also intense. Just not historically and personally as meaningful for the fan bases as Tennessee and the barn. That might be where I would put the RRR.

Your blood is very thin. Neither program has won much of anything in the last quarter of a century.
Most don’t consider you much of anything because the fans that remember your historical greatness are slowly dying off.
