Consider that quote then consider we are 32-11 since 2023.
In the corporate world that would earn a “meets expectations” and that’s the problem. The administration and most fans don’t demand excellence, so we never achieve it.
We’re afraid of what things would be without Drink, so we’re stuck in mid-level SEC and the outer fringe of the top 25.

The Fighting Michael Sams aren't Southern and therefore should not be in the SEC.

But that's what Mizzou is historically, when things are good. Why do you think they should be better now?
We have fans at programs like A&M, Ole Miss, and Missouri who are demanding more success than they've had historically, why is that?

You are stuck in a version of what I like to call Houston Nutt Land. You do just well enough (in Nutt's case it was winning a big game rather than overall wins) to look good but lose the important stuff. Year after year.

Because the business of college football has changed. Players get paid openly now. Talent isn’t going to pass up a big payday, just for tradition. There is no reason a college with big money and big donors can’t advance their lot (talking generally not MU specific).
The new arrangement is nascent and we’ve not seen its full impact yet. Can’t really tell yet what impact the Protect College Sports Act will have if it becomes law, but the landscape has definitely changed. There is no reason to believe that economics wont have an impact going forward.
That’s why some traditional middle of the pack programs have higher expectations. Now if you’re just shite talking…nevermind.

In the modern world, in the spot you are postulating, is that a bad place to be? Look at the money and talent TAMU has every year and they go 8 - 4. In Yankee Columbia you should rejoice with what you have.

Ya'll have been amazingly blessed by playing the easiest schedule in the league for many years now. That fact alone helped mask Drink's issues.
Total # of Final AP Ranked Opponents played in the regular season 2013-2025:
53- Auburn, Arkansas
52- S Carolina, Miss State
50- LSU, Texas A&M
49- Florida, Tennessee
48- Ole Miss
45- Georgia
44- Kentucky, Vanderbilt
41- Alabama
38- Missouri
Getting 1.07 fewer Top 25 opponents every single season for 14 years compared to some of the other teams in the league is a massive advantage.
Total # of Final AP Ranked Opponents played in the regular season 2013-2025:
