He lifted Missouri from a wounded program post-protests to recruiting heights we've never seen. Even better than Pinkel. That said, Pinkel always had quarterbacks. His own quarterbacks. And for someone who came here with a reputation for offense, he's never been able to recruit and develop his own QB and it's going to be his undoing.

Drink's earned the rope to fail, but when the time comes to pull the plug they need to move quickly.

Because the business of college football has changed. Players get paid openly now. Talent isn’t going to pass up a big payday, just for tradition. There is no reason a college with big money and big donors can’t advance their lot (talking generally not MU specific).

The new arrangement is nascent and we’ve not seen its full impact yet. Can’t really tell yet what impact the Protect College Sports Act will have if it becomes law, but the landscape has definitely changed. There is no reason to believe that economics wont have an impact going forward.

That’s why some traditional middle of the pack programs have higher expectations. Now if you’re just shite talking…nevermind.

People say this, but if you're willing to spend the money to compete with the big dogs now, why weren't you doing so 20 years ago?

A program could always advance and start winning, see Clemson.

I don't believe this narrative that some programs paid players and some didn't.

Consider that quote then consider we are 32-11 since 2023.

In the corporate world that would earn a “meets expectations” and that’s the problem. The administration and most fans don’t demand excellence, so we never achieve it.

We’re afraid of what things would be without Drink, so we’re stuck in mid-level SEC and the outer fringe of the top 25.

Mizzou is good, but the Gators are gonna chomp all over Mizzou this weekend. No shame, because the Gators are Natty contenders. I would not yet say favorites because the defense is still suspect.

Everyone has higher expectations now. When everyone has higher expectations, you can be sure some teams will be disappointed. I figure the traditional big name schools will still be the ones to beat and the smaller, generally less winning schools that still have decent funding will occasionally jump up and make a run when everything aligns. MO could be a playoff contender with enough funding, the right coach, and the right players, just like anyone else could. Whether Drinkswith is the right coach or not to be able to do that, I dunno. Yall know more about him than I do. He do seem goofy, tho.

Let’s assume everyone was above board back then for a moment. That actually makes my argument more compelling. If MU turned on the money spigot back then and got a better coach and better facilities etc. etc. If I’m Mr. 5-star stud I’m still going to Bama or some program with a proven track record. It was almost impossible to move up.

Today, if Mizzou offers me a crazy number and Bama offers me $2mil less, I’m mow going to Mizzou. IDGAF about history and tradition.

If Protect College Sports Act limits pay to play it would tend back to the old model I would think.

Drink today, "I'll open it up for critiques. I mean questions".

Narcissist 101. Winnable game and you shite the bed for what the 17th time in a row against a team with a pulse? I'm not saying fire the guy, but literally zero humility to admit fault. OF COURSE YOU ARE GOING TO BE CRITIQUED!!!

He is not a serious coach...entitled and carries himself as though the $11MM/yr he is paid should not come with expectations. He hasn't sniffed heat at Mizzou and already running his mouth about "critiques". I think in year SEVEN the show me state has been more than patient...we will have paid north of $45MM for his services once this season concludes. I guess we have the feel good Cotton Bowl Win, but not much else to show for it but a few lofty rankings and then getting rolled in the games that matter. This season very well moves him to paper tiger territory.

Mizzou will win a game against a top 25 sooner or later.

Au contraire.

I think everyone was cheating.

I disagree. Clemson did it. LSU did it. Georgia, to some extent, did it.

Those aren't historical blue bloods.

Sure, but I don't think that's happening a ton, and if the money is similar, a lot of those kids are still going to the big dogs. Look at recruiting rankings in the NIL period.

I think the one thing that definitely has changed are that the big dogs aren't stockpiling as much talent and a lot of those guys are going to programs like Mizzou, thus narrowing the gulf between a Mizzou and a Bama.

I think a Mizzou has a little higher ceiling now because of that, but I don't think it's drastically higher. Alabama is still going to buy better talent than you, regardless. Maybe with a great coach, Mizzou can rise up and touch the top, but I don't see a program like Mizzou as a consistent contender like I would a Bama or Florida, with the right coach.

Indiana is clearly the exception to this belief so I'm interested to see if that's more of a function of a changing time, or of Cignetti being an absolute GOAT.

Do you think so? I figure they’ll peter out a little in a year or two. They’ll probably be “good” in that conference for quite a while, though.

Well, I think this is true and might become even more true if the PCSA becomes law and operates as intended. If I’m a 4 star and Georgia’s hit their salary cap (yep, that’s what it is) and Arky’s still got some cash to bring to the table, guess where I’m going. Again, to your point, narrowing (not eliminating) the talent gap.

It’s going to be an uphill battle reigning in NIL. I haven’t yet read the bill, but supposedly it addresses collectives. Collectives are the very essence of pay to play no matter how you dress them up.

Ok but the problem is you’re still Missouri. Look at A&M… it’s the same thing.

Someone should send your coon-arse back to the swamp-sewer full of Missouri poop.

You dumbarses are too stupid to get the fact that Mizzou has been in almost 15 years & ain’t going anywhere. You’ll still be blabbing in 2052 when Mizzou has been in 40 years.

It would seem that if you beat Florida, you can put that narrative to rest. But if the Gators continue to run roughshod through their schedule, other schools, like Missouri, will start wondering why it's taking so long to get to the Playoff. I think he has to get there, sooner or later. And it's too late to be sooner.

Historically we are (according to Winsipedia) basically the 30-35th best program all time. Drink has us about ten spots higher than that. That’s reasonable success. If we don’t lose our QB and kicker lady year in week 1 who knows. If our all world RB Hardy doesn’t GET SHOT who knows.

Fans who want to move on are fools.
