Texas owns Oklahoma and Alabama, right?

Has Alabama ever played the State Fair?

Literally OU got the spot as Vandy kept winning there.

oof. Tough deflection there gramps.

If Vandy “owns Texas”, then Texas owns Alabama and OU by the same metric (they have a winning record over both in the cotton bowl stadium)

Sorry that hurts your feelings. If you weren’t so ancient and still had working tear ducts, I’d apologize for your tears

Pledge? It's Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma and the rest. With Texas standing atop due to head to head.

The only reason Texas is harder to get into currently is because the state government forces Texas A&M to accept students in top 10% and allows Texas to only accept the top 6%.

Go ahead and tell us all the year that rule went into effect, and then tell us all the publicly available trends that changed around top 10% candidates, applicant acceptance, applicants, SAT, ACT, etc etc. (hint: Texas Public Higher Education publishes a yearly "Profile of State and Institutional Performance and Characteristics")

Just the funding per student makes it super clear there is no "dual flagship" strategy and A&M and UT Austin are not designed to be equal educational experiences. A&M is a pretty good school though.

The state of Texas, and even UT-Austin say otherwise.

Re-read what I said. The statement was not "is Texas A&M referred to as a tier 1 flagship university" (I think California has half a dozen plus with that designation), its "is Texas pursuing a dual flagship STRATEGY" - i.e. treating them coequal. They are not. The funding, incoming student characteristics, faculty stats, etc make this super clear. It has nothing to do with being "land locked" by the oceans and mountains surrounding Austin LOL.

Saying A&M is a flagship as if that is a proxy for being "same quality" is incorrect and misleading.

Not really, back when I was applying a friend got into ut but not a&m. Ut is harder to get into, but getting into a&m is no joke

I have actually heard of this too, really seems like BS to me though. UT is definitely better and harder to get into. I will admit, A&M really isn’t that far behind.

Pretty sure both are better than University of Tennessee. Or probably any school in Tennessee other than Vandy.

U of Houston is probably on par with Texas Tech, if not better. Tech is not a good school at all. It’s just a big party school.

Now that I think about it, I am fairly certain Houston > Tech.

Krampus dropping some serious facts in here, good work sir. Academic smack is kinda weird for this board as it is, but op is a Vandy fan that rides the coattails of the longhorns so I sort of pity him in general.

At the end of the day both schools are great options for students within the state, and residents of Texas are fortunate to have good state universities. But this is the rant so what I really mean is and every school but mine is stupid and sucks at everything, especially the one in Austin.

Odd note, former SEC member Sewanee has seen a surge in students from TX in the past decade or two. Especially from DFW and HOU. Some recruiter has been working these areas hard or the kids of Utx and TAMU must not be getting in on mommy and daddy alumni card.
