re: It’s so much easier to get into Texas aTm than Texas, reminds me of Tennessee v Vandy

Your public stupidity noted. The networking and opportunities available to a kid that graduated from either Texas or Texas A&M in a meaningful field are second to none.

Utx should be happy they got embarrassed so often at the State fair they had to start playing Oklahoma there.

So then, a program owned by Vandy/South Carolina owns every other SEC program? Ouch.

tu is a slightly higher rated school than A&M, but really only very little
Got any stats for Texas?

No one believes that TU or Vandy players actually meet the academic requirements of any school.
They are paid to run around with a ball.

A&M has a men's gymnastics team.
Texas has neither.
That's weird to SEC fans where women's gymnastics is a huge sport.
Welcome OU to the SEC in gymnastics. They actually bring a shite ton of prestige.

Until the University of Tennessee starts castrating and mutilating children for a profit like Vanderbilt does, please don’t mention my alma mater in the same breath as those diversity, inclusion, and equity monsters at the private school in west Nashville. Ok? Thanks!

The only reason Texas is harder to get into currently is because the state government forces Texas A&M to accept students in top 10% and allows Texas to only accept the top 6%. A state legislator goes to my church and told me it is that way because years ago when they made that rule, lawmakers said Texas A&M had much more land to expand their campus in College Station and that Texas couldn’t expand at all because their campus was landlocked in the city of Austin.
Preach! And the end result is that A&M is suffering because of it, and so are lots of highly qualified Texas high school grads whose only decent options for in state public education are an enrollment capped UT, and massive mega unversity in A&M.
What Texas needs is for Tech, UH, UNT, TSU etc. to get their shite together and up their standards. Texas is WAY too big of a state to only have 2 tier one public universities. It's becoming a huge liability for the state's future as tons and tons of smart kids are forced out of state for a decent education at an affordable price.

Do you think the enrollment at College Station is too large? It’s a REALLY big school, even by state university standards.
Posted on 2/12/23 at 5:41 pm to Radio Zero
Yes. Much too large. Too many massive lecture hall courses. Too much reliance on online coursework. Too much faculty/student interaction lost.
The State of Texas has grown dramatically in the last few decades, and with UT's enrollment capped, A&M is being asked to shoulder that massive increase in students basically alone. It's not feasible for A&M to do that alone. And A&M's academic reputation is suffering because of it. And sadly A&M can't really do anything about it. State legislature will have to step in.

Thanks for the reply.
What is your take on Texas Tech, if I may ask? From what you’ve written, it doesn’t sound as if it’s considered to be (roughly) a peer institution with UT and TAMU.
From afar, when I think of Texas public universities, it goes (not necessarily in any order here) UT/TAMU/TTU, and then, “way down” the list, U. of Houston.

Rivalries are a big deal
Goes back to the Bama vs UGA days and the S vs S rivalry. Sorta like Nolan and Pitino in MCBB. You talk about 2 competitive coaches the S vs S thing was skrong. Gators and Tigers are the new kids and Sooners are good so it will just get more competive.
The South and Australia are the two most sports crazy places in the world.

Tech is not on par with UT and A&M. Tech is on par with UH, UNT, and Texas State. Not terrible schools by any means, but generally not a high achieving student's top choice, or even second choice. When I graduated 20 or so years ago, Tech was nicknamed "Last Chance U" (before the Netflix show came along), and most of the kids I knew that went there were B/C students who didn't take many advanced courses.
Texas higher eductation has been organized on what the state calls the Dual Flagship model. With UT and A&M being the dual flagship universities. It's a big dropoff after those two, which is why so many highly qualified Texas high school grads end up at OU, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss St., Alabama, Kansas, etc.
There are just way more qualified applicants than there are spots available at A&M and UT. And the other state schools in Texas aren't nearly as academically competitive.

Everyone talks about how different UT and 5&7 are, but no one wants to discuss how they’re similar.
They both got into 5&7
