So, if Arkansas somehow beats state and went 7-5, that would be ok?

Maybe, it would just depend on circumstances. If Arkansas has turned it around that much it might not look as bad.

What would a catastrophic loss be this season for him?

ULL, USM, Abeline Christian, TN, Arky, or OM.

Losing to any of these bottom feeders would be a disappointment, sad that the once proud TN & Arky are in this category but it is what it is.

I agree with the principle sentiment of your post but I was very confused for a second because I thought Fleming flipped to MSST lol.

Disappointed would be the better word.

While I can't speak for all State fans, it seemed like he didn't adjust to the talent we had. Our hope is he was playing a "long game" and establishing expectations etc -- we'll see how that plays out this year.

2 catches last year and this is a very different conversation. At least we beat up on the little folks like aTm, arkansas and auburn last year.

All that being said, it seems he has been busting butt to improve us in areas that need improving.

The state of MS produces a lot of great juco talent. I’ve seen us skip them in the past only to regret it after seeing them go elsewhere and become stars. I’m actually happy to see Moorhead go after some to fill needs.

I’ve bought in this season. 9 wins. Joe is a good recruiter if he gets a 4star running back outta georgia

I'm not knocking Fitz because I think he's a great QB. I'm not sure state fans understand just how different the reads are in Morrhead's system than Mullen's.

Fitz was always slightly behind the reads on passing and it interrupted the passing game. I think another year or 2 under this system and Fitz would be ok.

I like Mullen and I thought he got a lot out of his players. HOWEVER.. Mullen's offense is HS compared to Moorhead's.

Just as Fitz "grew up" in the Mullen system, you are going to need that with Moorhead.

Since you probably have the highest outlook on state this season how many wins do you see? 9 would make me happy

2 of those jucos won’t be in the class. Patterson is a cant get right knucklehead and Anderson-Butts is going to reclassify to 2021.

I mean, Vick Ballard was an absolute unknown 3* and either led or tied for the most rushing touchdowns in the SEC in 2010.

He did neither of those. He was number 2 behind Cam Newton. Still good stats though.

Don’t jump players have their own rankings ? That would give them the ability to sign guys who are rated higher but not more talented.

Yes, they do. If you put those players in with high school recruits their ranking would be much lower.

WR:

#54 Heath

#104 Johnquarise Patterson

#105 Anderson-Butts

#198 Caleb Ducking

Other JUCO players:

#13 WDE Jordan Davis

#45 SDE Tre Lawson

#51 OG Sebastien Dolcine

#60 SDE Benjamin Key

You can’t necessarily translate it like that considering Juco guys are rarely rated high anyways. Hardly ever any 5* and only a few 4* despite the fact that many play above that level.

ETA: for example Cam Newton would have been the #9 QB in the 2010 class and he’s arguably the most dominant college Qb of all time.

I’m just going based on their composite rating and adding them to the overall standings. There will always be players that were underrated, but there are far more kids that play to their rating than end up like Cam Newton. I’m not saying they are bad player by any means though.

I really like our roster and if Moorhead doesn’t work out, the cupboard will be left in good shape for the next coach. It was hard not to be negative about last season if you watched the games. The offense was abysmal against defenses with a pulse.

Except again, Juco recruits are rated differently. Newton was a 5* #26 in the country his senior year. Out of Juco he’d be the #9 QBs using his composite. Did get get worse as a QBs in Juco? No of course not. He just wasn’t rated similar to high school prospects. Which is why I’m saying your thought process is wrong. It’s highly unlikely there are 53 WR better than Heath
