I question Russell's QB I.Q. and I have NO question about the OL's inability to compete..

against high level defenses.
The kid just can't handle the job at this point. Getting the OL lined up properly, reading the defenses, taking the "open" receiver instead of holding it and letting the play breakdown.
The coach had better diagnose and fix the problem quick, before this season goes in the crapper.

Grubb was asking him to do way too much in his first road start. Simple as that. In the second half the playbook was simplified (except for the occasional what the frick are you doing Grubb playcall) and it made a big difference. Guarantee you KR grew immensely as a QB today.

I hope you're right. When a QB can't promptly get his line set, it creates a ton of confusion, missed player assignments, and penalties. He's also got to learn to take the short, easier pass when his other reads aren't open.
IMO, he's been around long enough to have much better knowledge of the system and what players strengths and weaknesses are.

PS - It WAS a terrible game plan.

They didn’t simplify anything, they just took the ball out of his hands. Blaming Grubb for that pick six, his overthrow interception, and the fumble is just ignoring the issue

He stopped looking for home run balls and then promptly threw it directly to a linebacker who luckily dropped the ball to start the second

He’s still very raw, he’s not playing bad because of playcalling. You saw it last week with some dumb plays

It was his second start, my guy. We won by 28. Maybe take a chill pill and try thinking some happy thoughts.

The pick six is asking him to execute a screen pass from his 3 yard line by leaving the defensive end unblocked. It was asking a lot.

Things were helter skelter all the way up to the snap last year as well. I think it’s a coaching issue at this point

It was his second start, in front of a hostile crowd on national TV. The play calling did him no favors I do think he got a bit rattled and spooked by their defense in the first half.

However, with more and more experience, he's going to get better. I also think the O line is going to get better with more and more game reps. I don't believe this year will be like last year where Ty thought in the back of his mind on every snap, "I'm going to get blasted by some 300 lb dude". These guys (O line in particular) will get better.

He's 6'3", 321. Less gut though.

I am not a sunshine pumper by any stretch - however - during the meltdown yesterday it was suggested that CKD should pull Russell and put Mack in. I said that would destroy his confidence and that they needed to demonstrate a belief in him - that he could overcome - that he shouldn't get all in his head about his mistakes. This was a good thing about yesterday. They will be tested severely in the days to come. If they never weathered any storms with success, they would fold like cheap suits

Im laughing this morning because ~75% of the posters on this board are acting like hysterical women. They cant possibly fathom that our new QB would have some growing pains. Only total domination is accepted. They want to get rid of Keelon, get rid of Grubb, get rid of CKD, get rid of RCW. They want to get rid of off our whole Tide family. Im gonna call them Lindsays.

This board is the absolute worst during games. So many man babies whining and raging out about this and that. I dont generally visit this board during games. Its a cesspool.

Amen. A good run game and defense are a young QB’s best friends.

Eliminate procedure penalties. Lean on the run game, and then bust them with the pass. Worked well in the 2nd half.

All I can say is people complained about TY. He went to the pros and looks like a phenom......Now people are complaining about Russell that had the same coach as Ty. I see some commonalities here........Its obvious Russell is talented. I think its more in his coaching and lack of experience. Its too soon to say Russell is bad.

If we compare KR to Tua and Bryce after 2 starts as a sophomore with some mop up duty as freshmen there's no comparison. Russell may end up being a very good QB for Bama, but he's been mostly hype so far.

After 2 starts - each against one Power 5 team and 1 G5 team:

Tua - 71% completion, 6 TDs, no INTs
Bryce - 70% completion, 7 Tds, no INTs
Keelon - 64% completion, 1 TD, 2 INTs

Questioning a QBs IQ at halftime of his first ever SEC road game as a starter is pretty much ridiculous. Dudes a true sophomore. Lets have some perspective here, folks.

If y'all cant see the Keelon will eventually be really, really good when he settles in and figures things out then idk what to tell ya.
