Supposedly choosing Ole Miss.
re: Who do you think (on paper) has the best shot at winning the SEC title this Fall?

I’m thinking LSU? I seem to recall we’re tied for #3 at $30 million.

I guess it’s possible but I hope we’re not relying solely on the portal while whiffing almost entirely on good HS players.

None but it doesn’t take a genius to see we appear to be broke.

Jesus, we're whffing on guys who are just OK and will probably never amount to much. Yes, I get it, we're focusing on keeping the last couple of recruiting classes on board and we're going to have a smaller class this year
but that doesn't or shouldn't mean we're settling for guys who would be more likely to start at Jax State or Georgia Southern. Other than Seaborn and Haven, this is looking like one of the worst recruiting classes since the Mike Shula days when we were absolutely crippled by sanctions.
I get the sense this kid going with Texas is comparable to Coach Bryant's days in the 1960s when he would sign a guy that he didn't think was all that good but wanted to make sure some other school didn't sign him just in case he by some weird circumstance does turn out to be pretty good.

The more, the merrier. If the O line improves, I don’t care if they have to hire a dozen assistants.

I hope you’re right but there are several big question marks with this team. Can the O line improve? (I think they’ll be a good bit better).
Can Keelon Russell grow up fast out there?
Can the defense be more stout vs the run?

I understand what you’re saying about retention and to a certain extent, it makes sense but we have to have at least some good players signed out of HS, otherwise in a couple of years we have zero depth.
I hate to see us whiff on literally every good player out there other than Haven and Seaborn. Yes, I understand there’s not going to be a big signing class but holy cow, this is a weak, weak class.
I hope this gamble works out.

Looks like Simmons committed to the Barn. Let’s hope and pray Gayles commits to Bama. That would royally suck if Bama whiffs on him.

Jerry Rice only had so so speed, so it’s still possible to be highly effective.

I think one difference is generally, coaches have to prove themselves to reach the big $$$. These HS kids have NEVER played a single down of college football. They're getting their money solely on potential. Some are pretty safe bets to be really good players in college. There are also invariably some HS players who never (for whatever reason) never do anything at the college level.
College coaches also have to spend WAY, WAY longer in their careers before they make good money and prove themselves over time (years and years) before then. Some HS kids have played ONE YEAR of HS football and can generate seven figures in NIL as a recruit.

Simmons is IMO wildly underrated. 2000+ yards receiving is impressive regardless of what level competition.
I’d be ecstatic signing him and Osami Gayles.

Maybe I missed it but I thought the most recent contract with Nike was up for renewal but I hadn’t heard or seen anything about it.

I hope you’re wrong. I know CKD and the staff are good at finding diamonds in the rough (e.g. London Simmons) but we run the risk of becoming MSU if we start only signing guys that may or may not pan out.

This strategy might work but it's a hell of a gamble. Guys get hurt or transfer out anyway or simply don't pan out for whatever reason. I guess if CKD has a keen eye for talent, he can take that bet. Let's hope it pays off.
If not, he'll be fired and we'll become Mississippi State.2.0.

CKD and NIL

Read this article and have mixed emotions.

On the one hand, he's right. NIL is gigantic and I get the sense that great facilities and coaching simply aren't enough to consistently attract the best players. I hate to say it but with 90 per cent of these kids, it's all about the $$$$$. Personally, I think that's a bit short sighted but I'm old school and a lot of these kids come from back grounds where they don't have pot to pee in or a window to throw it out of. It'd be hard to turn down that kind of money.
Then again, I refuse to chip into the NIL collective because A.) I'm not wealthy and B) I know we can't force the tooth paste back into the tube with NIL but the whole obsession with the almighty dollar by some players just rubs me the wrong way.
I don't have a clue where you would find this data (if it even exists) but I would be very curious to see a breakdown of the dollar ranges of donations each school gets for NIL (e.g. "20% gave $100,000 to 200,000, 5% gave $200,000-500,000). I would guess that schools like Texas, A&M and Texas Tech have most of their donations chip in over $100,000.
And I would be very curious to see where Bama's NIL contribution ranges fall.

If Sam Leavitt can stay healthy, LSU is gonna be very tough. All eyes are going to be on LSU at least early on.

I considered LSU but even though they've been spending like drunken sailors with NIL and had a massive upgrade in terms of coaches, it's still Lane and he's prone to doing something absolutely insane at the most inopportune time that will cost them dearly in a close game.
I feel like his nutty play calling at some point will cost them at least one game, maybe two every year.

I would have to say Florida. They have some talent on the team but were poorly coached by Billy Napier. Jon Summerall is a better coach and will have them playing fundamentally sound football. Not saying they'll make the CFP but I could see them with a 8-4 record.
Honorable mention:
Kentucky-I'll be interested in how Will Stein does in his first year in Lexington. He brings some youthful energy to a stale program. The Cats have been spending more in NIL and are improving their facilities. Will it be enough to see improvement on the field? I think so but the question is, how much?

Wow, big arm on that kid. He's also bigger than I originally thought he was. Hopefully, South Carolina isn't making a move on him. I'm sure they're telling him he could be the next LaNorris Sellers. Trouble is, there's a good possibility that Shane Beamer won't be there in a year or two.

Gayles reminds me of Mekhi Lemon from USCw last year. Good speed/hands and very shifty. Would be a massive pickup.
