When we’re often outweighed by about 40 lbs (their guys weighing 325-340 and ours are 285-300), it often makes a difference.

I like to think the fact Bama seemed to bring in some larger defensive linemen should help the defense not getting pushed around so much.

Joining the Mountain West Conference. I’ve been wondering if/when they’d make the jump. Who knows, they may become Boise State 2.0.
I’ve always felt Boise was kind of the Southern Miss of that part of the country. A team full of guys with a chip on their shoulders.

Have a little faith. I truly feel the O line will be improved with better coaching and some quicker players. Other than Brailsford, we had 4 incredibly slow guards and tackles who consistently got smoked all day every day.
Yes, most of the new O linemen don’t have a lot of starts, I’m pretty sure they’ll be quicker, which is huge. They will have better coaching. This makes a gigantic difference.

I’m sorry but you are delusional. The reality is those times are gone. Excellent coaching/development can make a difference but I think that by itself won’t be enough to win at a high level consistently.
Coach Bryant used to say “You gotta have chicken to make chicken salad.”. Fact is, you need good players and in today’s environment, cash is king with 99% of these players. I’m sorry but it’s true. And because of that, the days of Bama dominating every single year are over.
I believe in the future Bama will have some good teams and every now and then, a great team. But it’s naive to expect Bama to dominate. It ain’t happening.

Yeah, the Tet Offensive analogy isn’t a good one. Yes, initially the NVA were successful but ultimately, we inflicted such massive casualties on them and they lost so much equipment and supplies that it literally took them years to launch any kind of large scale operations after that.
Of course, the media gleefully portrayed it that the US had been defeated when that was simply not true.
Saying Tet was a massive defeat for the US is analogous to saying the US lost the Battle of the Bulge. Similar in that the US had some initial setbacks but ultimately crushed the enemy.

I hate being first. That seldom works out well for us.

Franklin has brought in a massive talent upgrade to Blacksburg relative to what VT had on campus when he arrived. While I don’t expect them to have top ten team, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them win 8-9 games next Fall. Barring a boat load of injuries, they’re going to surprise people next year.

That’s sort of right about VT. They had pretty much zero NIL game but I suspect James Franklin insisted that the school get serious about NIL before he took the job there. Given the crap load of guys he poached from Penn State to come there, it seems reasonable to assume VT is “in the NIL game” now.

I can’t speak for every grad from Southern New Hampshire but one of my supervisors at my last job (I’m retired now) was an SNHU grad. Dumber than a box of rocks. Made me wonder just how challenging that school is.

You may be right. I’m still skeptical.

Well, to those guys (UVA), cultural fit is very important, and I can assure you they very much look down their collective noses at the SEC.
UVA is a great school academically but it ain’t happening.
If wanting greater exposure for the SEC into Virginia is a thing, probably Virginia Tech would be better fit. Trouble is, VT is at a bit of a crossroads. I don’t know about now with James Franklin taking over but I do know up until recently VT had pretty much no NIL game.
Some of the powers that be at VT don’t care about NIL or even being competitive in sports. Some do care. My guess is Franklin only accepted that job if VT would get serious about NIL.

Virginia would never in a million years join the SEC. I used to work there many years ago. It makes Berkeley, CA look conservative compared to Charlottesville/UVA. Most college campuses are pretty liberal but I was astonished by the hundreds of alums wandering around who look like Willie Nelson and still think it’s 1968.
To say UVA would be a terrible fit in the SEC would be an understatement.

I agree being on campus is/was (for me anyway) a really great experience but not everyone can do that. Some people can’t afford to live on campus. Some people have small kids. Some people have jobs/careers.

I'm aware UA has some online degrees. I get the sense though that there could be more offered and rarely do I see any marketing/advertising for online degrees for UA.
ASU offers more than 100 online degrees.

I do think eventually the SEC will expand. May not be in the next 12 months but I guarantee when the ACC implodes in 2036, the SEC will poach at least a few schools from there. If so, which ones?
I feel like the SEC will place a huge value on tv market/viewership and as such, these four would make the most sense-
Miami-scoff all you want but Miami pulls in about a little more than 3 million viewers per Saturday. This is more than Tennessee, Auburn, Vanderbilt and Missouri. Miami is the 12th most watched team in the country.
Florida State-The Seminoles pull in about 2.37 million viewers per week. FSU is the #16 most watched team.
Georgia Tech-I know some old timers may say "Hell no" but I've always felt they belong back in the SEC. Believe it or not, GT is the #19 most watched team with just over 2 million viewers each week.
Clemson-they pull in just under 2 million viewers per week and are the #21 most watched team.
I may be wrong but the powers that be in the SEC seem to put a gigantic premium on the numbers of viewers that watch as a part of their criteria for expansion.

Before anyone goes into epileptic seizures, I'm not really criticizing the university but I'm curious why UA doesn't do more with online degree offerings?
It's a fairly cheap way to increase enrollment (no need for additional classrooms), increase the alumni base and hopefully increase the school's endowment.
I see schools like Arizona State, Purdue and Liberty going whole hog on this and don't see why UA couldn't do that same. Any ideas?

Jarrett Johnson had more heart than most players. That was a guy who never, ever, EVER gave up on a play or a game. Didn’t matter how bad the situation was, he gave it 110% at all times.
He was the kind of player Coach Bryant loved. A guy who was just pretty good but played way bigger than his ability.

I'm optimistic about the transfer center, Delgatty. Has played a lot of snaps and give up very, very few sacks. Him being smart and hopefully picking up the scheme would be huge.
Carroll played a lot and had some growing pains. Personally, I think he'd be a better guard but obviously the staff knows more than I do. Still, those game snaps he had were invaluable.
I agree they need to decide on the starting five and get them reps, reps and more reps. Unit cohesion is critical. I'm hoping they can improve the quickness in this unit. Last year, we had some REALLY SLOW guys out there that got routinely got smoked by speed rush guys.

There's pressure in the sense that while he probably paid cash for his house/car(s), his wife/family have the luxurious lifestyle they're no doubt accustomed to including the fabulous vacations that none of us on this board could ever afford, and other expenses that again, probably none of us could afford.
Very few HS coaches have thousands of people literally screaming for your head if you have an off season and in addition, you live in a fishbowl nationwide.Very, very few HS coaches are recognized outside their home town. CKD farts in public and it's all over national media. No one cares if a HS coach does that.
Yeah, he makes a lot of money but personally, I would HATE constantly being scrutinized in public for everything I ever said, did, ate, etc. It would get old quick. At least IMO.
