Johnson was one of the better D linemen we ever had. Worked great in the 4-3 at Bama and did well in a 3-4 in the pros. Probably a top 5 defensive linemen for Bama in the 21st century.
I was surprised how long a leash they gave Curry. She didn't make the NCAA tournament for 7 years at Alabama to start her career here. She's done a great job the last few years.

If we can just stay healthy we are the best team in the league and a final 4 team. Just gotta be healthy.

Bama sent out 11 offensive linemen and brought 10 in to go along with firing the OL coach. You can't say DeBoer just sat back passively. He's clearly trying to fix the problem.
Every day college sports sucks a little more.
Kentucky, Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU and Arkansas have former pro players on their roster. I bet there are more, I just haven't checked. I think most SEC teams have a former pro on their roster.

Alabama is one of the few SEC teams that *doesn't* have a former pro on the team. At least for now.

I still haven't figured out how he could possibly play when he wasn't in school in the Fall. Doesn't make sense. You can't pick up a transfer at the break.

Why do you think that?
Looks like we have enough OL talent, I just want to find 5 guys and stick with them all year. No more rotating guys all season.
This is all quite retarded but if the NCAA is going to be useless let's go ahead and burn it down.
Bama scores 50 in the second half. This feels like Football where every game is a grind and first half starts out them in a hole. I’ll take the W.
This team has enough talent to win a national championship but could also lose in the 2nd round. I think Sweet 16 is the over/under. If we get to March w/ everyone healthy and can rebound decently we will be a really tough out. But we 've had some rough starts lately.

One thing I like about Oats is he doesn't sugar coat things and will name names, but that goes both ways (he's been giving effusive praise to Bowen lately) and doesn't come off as throwing guys under the bus.

What are we doing here? If I want to watch the NFL I'll watch the NFL.
Our WR room is not great. You have Williams and Brooks. They're both small guys. We don't have anyone else that has any experience.

If you look at the 247sports team rankings for portal signees. We’re at #25

Bama is currently 49th in the transfer portal rankings. 15th in the SEC.

Honest question... how was Lane and Ole Miss able to build through the portal the last few years? I understand Texas has more oil money. But are you telling me that we have less resources than Ole Miss for NIL? Some how Ole Miss was able to create a very effective NIL program without UTx money.

Ole Miss' starting QB played D2 last year. Their starting RB was 4th string at Mizzou last year. Their leading receiver was at Penn State for 3 years before this season. Their 2nd best WR was at Oklahoma State the year before. Their 3rd string WR was at Wake.

Ole Miss is absolutely killing it finding guys in the portal. You either have to do that, which saves money, or you can do what OSU and Texas do which is just spent your infinite money to get the best players on paper.
The portal matters much more than HS recruiting. Look at who is playing for the title. Both QBs transferred in. You can't have a successful program without getting a lot of good guys from the portal.
The star thing means nothing when you are getting guys that played 2-3 years somewhere else. Imagine getting Josh Jacobs after 2 years at Bama and saying he still just a 3 star. Or getting 4th year Baker Mayfield and saying he was just a lowly walk on.
Clock rules didn’t change as much of the game as people think.

When people wonder why Jaeden Roberts didn't play much it's because he's not built for the scheme. He's built to blow guys off the ball.

I think the scheme can work, but some of the guys aren't built for it and I'm not sure if Coach Kap is teaching it well.

Bama runs a different blocking set than some people are used to. Not always, but more than you may be used to.

In pass protection they use a lot of vertical sets instead of traditional sets. You'll see lots of straight up retreating from the tackles instead of the traditional 45 degree angle. Vertical sets are more passive but the benefit is you shouldn't get confused by stunts or twists since you don't engage as quickly.

In the run game they run a lot of pin and pull blocking. It's sort of like a gap scheme mixed w/ a zone scheme. If you're a lineman and you're covered you block inwards (pin) so he can't go to the RB. If you're uncovered you pull around the guy next to you who should be pinning and find a guy to block. The problems w/ pinning and pulling are that you are more susceptible to TFLs because if one guy doesn't do his job the defender is right there to blow up the play. If you run regular blocking scheme and miss a block it's usually no gain (roughly), not a big loss.

If you run a pin and pull scheme you have to have athletic linemen that communicate well.

I don't know if Coach Kaplovich ran that scheme in the past or not. He didn't do a good job. Bama seemed to have a lot of tackles for loss in the run game.
Our most important players are Philon and Sherrell. Sherrell isn't as good as Holloway, but he's more important.

Hard to beat a decent team on the road without your two most important players.

I was not impressed w/ Vandy. They are solid, but not great. They started 12-1 last year with a bad schedule, scoring over 100 points 3 times. They went 8-10 in SEC play and lost in the first round of the SEC And NCAA tournament.

They are better this year, but not that much better. They will not win the SEC regular season title unless some other teams have plane crashes.
