DeBoer didn’t recruit as good as Lanning, Sark, or Riley. He was 6-0 against them. This obsession with recruiting rankings is really bizarre when you have a sample size like that.
He had a Heisman level QB for two seasons and the Pac-12 is a cakewalk in general.

Great hire but I am not sure it will mean much if he loses 3 regular season games in one of his first four years.
Most interesting part of his contract is what his buyout is.

He will need to grow into the position. Going to be tough after Saban.

Seeing Deboer’s recruiting at Washington makes me so happy! I’m excited he’s in charge of the program and deserves 6 seasons and a movie!

How many of you think the DeBoer hire was a good one?
I think he’s a good hire considering everyone who rejected bama
Jimmy Sexton was playing 4 D chess. I firmly believe he was the target from beginning. Think about it. Sexton got his guys major pay raises and extensions.
Sark is great but whyyyyy would he leave Texas now.
Lanning is good but not ready for prime time. Another 10 years will age him correctly.
Kiffin burns way too many bridges plus he’s immature.
Norvell is perfect for Florida State. Trailer park trashy. ( no disrespect to people who live in trailer parks- I did myself at one time.}
Sweeney could have had it if he’d been more humble and less a prick.
He will win big at Bama
Finally, no doubt Coach Saban had say in the hiring

I know you're too dumb to follow context, but the argument is the flavor of the week never works out and I gave a counter example.

Bama loses 4 games this year. Book it. No sisters or wives are safe come September.

Texas isn’t in the PAC. That doesn’t explain how he was able to beat programs that out recruited him. Riley also had a Heisman winning QB. Something isn’t quite right so either the recruiting rankings were wrong or DeBoer just might be able to coach. Which is it?

Anything that's not Saban is a downgrade, but if I were an Alabama fan I'd be pretty happy.

Risky hire. High ceiling, low floor. His ceiling won’t be as high as Saban. You guys have to come to grips with that.

I think he was your 4th choice and that is never a good way to start.

He got blown out in the National Championship and his defense looked like a JV squad allowing a CFP record in rushing yards.

Pretty good hire. Unfortunately after Saban everyone is a let down. He's stable and a winner so Bama is still in a premier position. There will be a short lull until recruits, players, and fans buy into his culture vs. The Dark Lord's

I talked a lot of shite yesterday but if I’m being honest, it was a good hire.

The question will be can he maintain 1 loss seasons, as that’s the bama standard. And if those seasons become 2 or 3 loss seasons, will he be given time to see if he can right the ship, or will he be immediately cut loose for the next hire.
Any Bama fan with money or influence is old enough to remember the days of DuBose, Shula, Fran, etc. We are not firing anyone over a 10-2 or 9-3 season in the SEC. Be competitive against the best teams in the conference, make a 12 team playoff at least half the time, and we are happy.

Will he have 4 weeks to prepare every week?

risky.(can He recruit an area unknown to him and short history being an HC)
Alabama is one of the programs that ESPN essentially gives lots of advertising to everyday.
Alabama had good players even pre-Saban.
They’ll get good players going forward.
As a top 5 revenues program, they have advantages that Washington can’t fathom.
Could boosters screw it up?
I guess so, but I would not bet against this guy doing an admirable job.

What is his buyout going to be at Alabama? Tell me that and I will tell you if it is a good hire.

I think he was the best available. By best available I’m saying that Kirby wasn’t going anywhere, Sark wasn’t leaving Texas, and I guess Lanning is happy at Oregon. That leaves DeBoer. There’s questions about whether he can recruit this area, or whether he can stand the pressure of coaching Bama right after the greatest college football coach of all time stepped down. But, that question would probably have been relevant for any coach stepping into this role. To me the only other guy I’d have considered is Lane. But I believe Bama got the better coach
