He is a good, safe hire.

Great hire but I am not sure it will mean much if he loses 3 regular season games in one of his first four years.

The new coach needs at least one large loss per year for the first 3 years. It's fair and if you are unable to get it together after 3 years, then we need to talk. Especially if I am paying you on the high side of 9 million a year.

Bad hire. Flash in the pan guy who has no history recruiting or playing tough schedules. Won’t last three years.

Damone. Do you believe anything you say or do you just basically try to have a conversation?

The GOAT retired and 48 hours later Greg Byrne hired the 2023 AP Coach of the Year. That’s pretty impressive in my book.

Winners win.. he’s won everywhere he’s ever coached.

In his 9 seasons as a Head Coach, he’s lost 1 game at home. That’s crazy!

Time will tell, but as a lifelong Bama fan.. very happy with the hire

Nobody knows yet.

It’s risky, but it could be a great hire.

Not a bad hire but not without a degree of risk. This is the SEC not the PAC 12. He has the ability to succeed if he is ready to kick it up a notch.

Could be good. Could be a Sonny Dykes or Jimbo Fisher hire. We’ll see.

I think its a great hire.

Only time will tell but I think its key that Saban is still there to help him get acclimated to the SEC.

Yes, there will have to be new relationships built during recruiting with the regions HS coaches but all that can be initiated with a phone call from Saban to get him into HS DeBoer desires. Alabama recruits itself but it'll be up to DeBoer to keep those established pipelines open.

Huge shoes to fill and I'm not expecting Saban 2.0 but I do see rhe team being competitive year in and year out with DeBoer. He just wins

Hard to say as an old LSU fan. Curley Hallman was supposed to be the next big thing. Tex Schramm basically told LSU's AD "hire Curley Hallman and don't look back". He turned out to be the worst coach LSU has ever had. Brett Favre made him look good. No more Brett Favre and we saw who he was.

LSU 2019 is not as apt an example. Everyone knew Orgeron was a buffoon and marveled at what a buffoon could do with an elite QB and receivers. Having Aranda as DC and a young Joe Brady as Passing Game coordinator helped, too.

I really don't know enough about DeBoer to know where he falls. My gut tells me he is average to above average. Bama will be a top 10 to 20 team but will start to fade and be looking for a coach in 5 to 7 years. Could be a similar dynamic to what happened after Bear retired.

Last time I checked, he beat Oregon twice and Texas (the almighty SEC) once

I think it’s a fantastic hire - imagine what this young buck can do with South football players.

Get ready for the ride because this dude is going to dominate the SEC

He was the 5th best of the realistic hires. This is the type of hire that would have been a homerun for a lower level P5 program like South Carolina or Kentucky. Following tGOAT at Bama, he’s pretty meh.l, but you were going to see a drop off either way. If Bama fans can be patient, I think he can be a solid coach for you.

That's bullshite in the NIL/Portal era. You got to recruit even harder than before at Bama.

He’s 49. Sure you’re not thinking about an actual good hire like Dan Lanning?

Not that many coaches would have had the stomach to succeed Saban, so I give him credit for that. How will he do? Bama fans will just have to wait and see.

Does Bama have a Michael Penix waiting?

I get being a fan and being excited no matter what but I would think most reasonable Bama fans (like the ones I hang around) would have some reservations on the guy.

His two years at UW he had a kinda unicorn at quarterback. Penix’s accuracy and ability to read defenses was exceptional. He also had unbelievable receivers the past two years. Does Kalen win so many games with a Jake Browning/Milroe type of quarterback? I would guess not.
