Kirby would have been better

Kirby was 1-5 against Saban and the lone win was a fluke. Even Malzahn and Freeze did better.

So you acknowledge that DeBoer’s resume, at best, is equivalent to Brian Kelly?

Kiffin was the only home run hire for Bama, IMO, at this time. But, other than that, this is a good hire with the potential to be great. Dabo would have been a nightmare for Bama, Norvell is a pipsqueak that can't keep his team from quitting, Kirby wasn't coming, Sark has no reason to leave Texas

Other than Kiffin, this was the best available, even considering the questions.

Saban isn't walking back through that door. You'd do well to accept that and move on. The past is a dreadful place to live. Trust me.

Good, yes. Great, no idea... he's been a coach at this level for basically 2 years.

How many conference championships and playoff wins does Kelly have in Power 5?

ZERO. None. Based on that alone DeBoer is ahead of him and Kelly had the benefit of being at Notre Dame and still couldn’t win a BCS game or Playoff game much less a National Championship game. Kelly is middle of pack in SEC.

It was time for Saban to retire. The man said it himself. Kirby couldn’t even beat a 72 year old Saban. And judging by Kirby’s appearance dude looks really fat and unhealthy and looks to be transitioning into a lesbian gym teacher he won’t be around in 5 years either. It’s a brutal grind. Go look at pics of your precious Kirby the day he was hired compared to now. It’s night and day. Dude looks terrible.

I was ecstatic as an Auburn fan and that is the general consensus from Auburn fans.

Coming from a fan whose team has had to fire its last FOUR head coaches, I'd think that it is a good sign!

I think it is what it is. We have no way of knowing until we see what he produces. I don’t see how anybody could have followed Saban. My choice was Kiffin but evidently he hulled out some whore that was married to a limp dick trustee and burned that bridge.

Talented coach. Big questions are the recruiting and ability to manage the distractions.

Saban's mastery of recruitment, coaching, and ability to kick out distractions/noise from alumni and boosters was the holy trinity.

And I noticed someone referring to Urban Meyer as a flash in the pan. I'm not suggesting he is still relevant after Jacksonville but what he did at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State makes that an idiotic comment. He would still worry me as a possible threat if a major school rolled the dice on him

104–12 is hard to argue with. I can’t believe he’ll be another Saban though. Oh Jesus God I hope not.

We will know a lot by DeBoer's defensive hires. If they're bad he won't succeed.

I think it's one of the best hires Alabama can do right now. Not a slam dunk like Kirby would be, but not bad at all, coming behind Saban at that.

I think it's good for DeBoer to move on from Washington, and good for Alabama as the next coach behind Saban.

What kind of success will he have at Alabama? I have no idea, and neither does anyone else.

On a side note, the SEC Rant has become an insufferable feces storm of cheap trolling.... I guess the Admins don't give a crap, or maybe they are the ones perpetuating it... I don't know.

In all sincerity, it’s a good hire but a big risk.

DeBoer obviously knows football. He knows how to win with the talent he has. He knows how to prep for conpetition. And honestly, if Penix wasn’t off last Monday night, I’m not sure the game doesn’t have a different outcome.

But anyone here can tell you that the SEC is a different animal. It’s very much a unique football culture with highly intense fans wanting immediate results. Some of those highly intense fans are boosters and people of high influence. They want a say in the program. They want access.

Alabama was riddled with controlling boosters and handling guys who wanted access/input in the program. These are the kinds of people who want things the “old” way. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of Bryant’s loyalists come snooping around again. You’ll surely have people who think they know the Saban way. Stallings, Franchione, Dubose, and Shula all suffered from the meddling PTB.

Saban was able to excel because he knew how to waive away that bullshite. It was also the perfect storm for when he came to Alabama. He was given complete control of everything and was able to implement his program how he wanted to.

Will DeBoer get that kind of freedom? He’s no doubt going to be different than Saban. He’s not of the Saban tree. Will he have to adjust his philosophy and leadership to connect to Saban? Will the PTB have the patience to give him that kind of autonomy?

History suggests no. So, I think he can win and be successful. Will Alabama fans give him the support when he doesn’t replicate Saban’s success?

He's obviously a good coach and his teams liked playing hard for him....he'll get top talent and pick of the litter with coaches.

The big IF and it's as big F-ing IF, is he has NO clue the pressure of coaching Alabama.

Everyone knows The Gumps are insane...that's a fact Jack. The North West is nice. People like football, it's fun.

In Alabama, it's the most intense fan base of any team. LSU fans are crazy but fun as we know. Alabama fans KILL after each loss.

I think we may be pleasantly surprised.

Young, smart, eager...

You're not going to find anyone as good as Saban, but this may be pretty damn good.
