my man, how long ago do you think this was?

I was in the middle of college when this was going on and I’m 40 now. O was fired from ole miss in 2007. Many of the people that held those issues against ole Miss are very much alive, especially when talking about what “grandparents” said

And it’s not like you can just change a mascot and a song and everything changes instantly

Is it dumb? Yes, but people are dumb

Orgeron has a legit claim that it was an issue when he was here. Lane doesn’t

I mean, the perception was there during the Lane years and it's still there. Which is what he was talking about.

Why? You think the people that thought ole miss was racist in 2007 or thought ole miss was racist for playing Dixie 10 years ago just changed their minds because yall got rid of it? Thats not how it works

Yall have to wait for a lot more people to die before that perception is completely gone

I’m sure it was a bigger problem for O but that doesn’t mean the perception just disappeared completely

I never said there wasn’t any money. There wasn’t millions to work with though. Easier to ignore the perception of racism when said “racist” institution is offering mid six figures, all above board, as opposed to $100 handshakes and “church donations”.

I remember Tommy having to bitch about “I can’t recruit with that damned flag all over campus” in the 90s.

And we know it wasn’t 100 dollar handshakes.

Morgan Freeman sure as hell doesn't have a problem with Ole Miss. Why does he go to so many games and not complain about the past?

Morgan Freeman tried to join an all white country club in his home town in Mississippi. They wouldn't let him join. Morgan freaking Freeman.

If you got a cross section of people in the old Cotton Belt to speak freely and off the record, you'd likely hear the same things.

Seriously. This is all just hypocritical stuff. Every Southern state's got things not to be proud of back then, Mississippi was probably the worst but history typically puts LA in that top tier with Mississippi and Alabama. Crazy that LSU coaches past and present want to go down this road.

Are folks still confused by what's being said here?

Everyone has racist history, not everyone is battling the perception of being at a racist university.

don't even think the perception is fair, but it definitely exists.

But it’s an unfair stereotype that is perpetuated by the national media and the north. It’s unfair and it’s about time we let this crap die. It’s not happening now at a systemic level at any of these southern universities and these colleges even pre NIl have done worlds to improve the lives of students of all races and religions. True or not it is something Lane should have kept to himself and Sark should just shut the frick up. Texas has more built in advantages than any university in the sec and he has dick all to show for it. 156 million in donations and that was for the 24/25 season. Next closest was TN at 110million. Alabama and LSU came in 4th and 5th with only a million separating the two.
