Choosing Ja'Marr Chase over DeVonta Smith should be a crime

I don't understand all of these mocks with JC being selected over Smith.

Chase is a great, physical deep threat, but Smith's skillset is much better suited for consistent production; he's more versatile and can play any WR position and be used in run game formats (ie jet sweeps).

Added to OP:
Smith averaged 10 touches a game in 2020 compared to Chase's 5.6 in 2019 (right in line with a traditional, NFL Wideout1).

Smith is going to have a lot more consistent production and his skillset has much more breadth to scheme with. If I'm an NFL team, I want that in spades - it's the analog of OBP in baseball.

RE: Waddle Effect
He averaged 10 touches a game with Waddle in the first 4 weeks (9.5 if you count the UT game).

Pretty much every NFL GM disagrees with you big time.

Name one skill he has that is "much better suited for the NFL game" than Ja'marr

Devonta had 4 carries for 6 yards in his entire college career.

Chase is one of the best prospects to come out in a long time.

He can do it all.

Smith is great too obviously but Chase has the size on him and is sick at the point of attack which translates better in the pro game.

Not saying Smith wont be good as well.

It's because Smith is 166 pounds, agree with it or not, that's why.

Not hard to understand.

You know, you are right. Whichever GM drafts Chase first to be on their football team and make millions of dollars should definitely be arrested, immediately.

Did you not watch how Sark uses him at the LOS?

If Chase goes in the top five there will be a string of players sitting out the season to protect their draft status next year. It won't just be bowl games.

Personally I hope Chase goes to Cincinnati and Smith (or Waddle) to Miami. Those two reunions with their QBs would be fun to see.

Both will be greats. But the NFL is very big on a certain look or weight or height. Smith is too small for some of them. If he's lucky, he'll go to a good team.

Chase has more yards per catch, TDs per catch, yards per season, and catches per season than Smith.

Smith is an amazing player but Chase is the better WR.

I hope Smitty lands in a good system/organization.

If he gets the right playcaller look out.

Chase will be an alpha regardless of where he goes.

Honestly I would take Pitts over both and put him out at WR like Calvin Johnson. Good luck to any DB's trying to cover him at 6'6"

I did. those tap passes and screens are not nearly as effective in the NFL than they would be at Alabama.

Chase will go first and rightfully so, but it’s literally for none of those reasons you mentioned. They don’t care about yards per season over collegiate careers

I'd be shocked if Chase makes it past 5, and if those future players that may or may not sit their junior years have sophomore campaigns like Chase, their teams will be better for it.
