This is a one season thing with the 24 team playoff going forward

There is zero chance they get this right.

It cannot be applied to ND. That alone cancels any validity of this metric, because they damn sure aren’t going to keep ND out.

Good point. But it will still apply, it just moves the argument lower is all.

Question, how many SEC will get in under the 24 team playoff? 6? At some point it waters down the reg season too much.

Just like bowls used to mean something then they made a bowl for everyone basically and it lessoned the value of making a bowl game. 24 team playoff will do great TV numbers but that doesn’t make it good.

Hopefully they will also do something about preseason rankings. I still don't know how some of these teams are ranked in the top 25. You can't really factor strength of schedule without addressing preseason rankings.

Just bring back BCS for this and call it a day.

I actually prefer the BCS to this playoff system.

It is clear that any metric they say they use is only applicable to teams with the same record, just like SOS last year

At best a 10-2 SEC would get in over 10-2 ACC team, but it would not be used to get a 9-3 SEC team in over and 10-2 ACC team. AKA nothing has really changed

Good. Common sense. Thanks. Texas doesn’t plan to lose but things happen and a 3 loss team in the SEC with exceptional wins shouldn’t have to sweat it out and be excluded from the playoff.

Why even have committee involved? We have AI now. Similar to BCS but modern. No BS.

Basically what happened to 13-0 FSU. They couldn't handle that they didn't have an equivalent strength of schedule compared to Alabama and Texas.

This will have zero impact on Notre Dame

Which is why my answer to "who do you want to see lose more than anyone else" is always Notre Dame.

A SOS metric should've been used from the beginning. Not sure what took so long.

Big 10 only needs 3 teams max because of how top heavy they are.

You rely on AI too much boomer - Signed AI/Systems Engineer

If anything it should be a companion.

They will sweat it and they will be left out for a team with a better record

Just like in 2025 when they said they were putting emphasis on SOS and everyone believed it, that didn't get a 9-3 Texas team with a road game at OSU in over a 10-2 Miami non conference winning miami, and ND would've been in before Texas too. And if Texas goes 9-3 and ND or Miami go 10-2 guess what is going to happen again

I believe they will use the metric when comparing teams with the same record between conferences. I think some of you are giving the CFP Committee far too much credit given their history

Believe it when I see it

all this will do is ensure more 9-3 SEC teams make it in favor of 10-2 Big 10 teams.

Yay, how fun.

As it should.

Purdue
Maryland
Rutgers
Minnesota
Northwestern
UCLA

Are all absolute cupcakes.

nebraska and Michigan state are mid at best.

It will be very rare for them to ever put a 9-3 SEC team in over a 10-2 Big 10 team.

Two-loss Indiana with maybe one quality win would still get in over a 3-loss SEC team, watch it happen.

Miami wouldn't have got in last season if they guaranteed power 4 Champs are in like now.

Ok, then Miami would've been out and a 2 loss shite schedule ND would've been in

Did they not consider this before? I thought the whole reason for having a committee was to evaluate all aspects of the teams under consideration. If we're just using metrics, then go back to the computer.

Yeah, they already use SOS/SOR as part of their criteria (pretty much the main reason OU and Bama got in over ND last year, as an example) so I really don’t know how this changes things at all, more than anything just seems like a PR repackaging. Plus it’s still a committee of humans, so they can just lean into whatever metrics / rationale that they most want anyway.

I'm all for bagging on them, but they're getting unfairly singled out. Miami's schedule is much worse than Notre Dame's.
