You should spend more time here.
But for that, he would have certainly bombed.

How many successful coaches were successful with a shitty administration. Maybe those coaches don’t know what true athletic department administration actually looks like. Or may some of them were successful only because they had great administration above them.
No doubt, he should have been voluntold to retire after 2017. It passed him long before he left, but you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think he was and would still be a legend here in Baton Rouge. People loved that guy especially after he retired and stayed close to the program.

He should have stayed right here and continued living in the lore of LSU baseball. Dumbass could have lived out retirement as a legend. He knew he was out of his depth years before he “retired” here.
I agree with this completely. I don’t care about basketball. I understand it makes money and is important to the school. I would rather win a baseball CWS all day long over a basketball final 4 but i would like to keep basketball around for the benefits. However if you guaranteed me 3 more CWS titles, I’d completely tank the basketball program forever. Thats how much I like baseball and don’t care one way or the other about basketball.

Skip Bertman was a much much better coach than AD. I don’t know if he bombed as AD but he wasn’t good.

If you guaranteed me 3 more CWS ships but we would have to dump basketball all together forever, I’m taking the 3.

This is exactly what I’m expecting to see. If it doesn’t happen I will find something to blame it on.
This team will be fine. Baseball is very hard, especially at this level. Even more so on a team with a lot of new pieces. This all really is “just baseball”. The average fan doesn’t see anything other than “well we’ve won it twice how come we aren’t winning every game we’re playing”. They legitimately don’t know baseball. I’ll still go to every single game possible and have an expectation that we can win every single one we play in.

Smoke is a great baseball guy. Very knowledgeable, a great evaluator of talent (was a scout for the Braves last I heard), and an excellent teacher. Some guys just aren’t cut out to run a major program. Smoke is one of those guys.
This is probably the most accurate post in this entire thread.
Because we were killing it 2 years ago in 2024 in all of these same sports? Is this a fricking joke?
To the topic. Smoke had early conference success in the first year with Skip’s players but we quickly fell off the following years. To the point where no one had any faith in the post season. That’s how I remember it anyway.

I know I’m in the minority here but I absolutely loved the black units and the black hats with the purple bills. Loved them, wish like hell I could find a fitted one now without all the other stupid shite on the side of them. Just the interlocking lsu, black hat, purple bill. Absolutely loved that thing. They had one in Omaha last year in a 6-7/8 and I was able to get it for my son.

I tend to agree with this for the most part. Some scouts might see something they feel can be fixed or adjusted for, in his swing but the majority will not. His glove is great but if you are going to be small you have to be extraordinary in everything else to get a real shot. Thats just the way it is.
Bruh stop this strawman bullshite. These 2 situations are not similar in any way.

Brother one bat, one glove, does not make a team. If they don’t make a run it’s not gonna be because of one individual player.
