It isn't a matter of strength of conference, its a matter of strength of schedule....and doing any sort of handicapping in the CFP selection and seeding process is going to help SEC teams who have played 9 games against teams with NFL players up and down the roster while everyone else has played a couple of such teams.
I think everyone agrees that a key injury can hinder a teams winning. Everyone has key injuries. Depth and ready to plug and play talent is what's required to win a natty. Season ending injuries are bad but season limiting injuries due to NFL players beating on your arse all season are almost if not just as bad. SEC teams that make the playoff have far more of the latter than any other conference. The only "fair" way to annoint a champion is for everyone to play a similar schedule.

The committee says shite all the time and they use the metrics they say with prejudice, use it for this team and not that team
AKA losing conference championship game won't hurt you, hurt BYU, did not hurt Bama
The most important factors until proven otherwise is, What is your record? did you beat a team with that same record? How big is your brand? The CFP is a business and $$$ will be the determining factor unless a hand is forced (head to head, auto bid's to lesser conferences) They will then adjust the mistake as much as possible (adjust the loophole so only 1 group of 5 gets in instead of 2)

This is why it helps the B1G more than anyone. They can luck up into an easy conference schedule while the SEC can't. A bubble B1G team can now be judged on the teams they didnt play vs the teams they did play.
