You're talking about infringing on the divine right of the common man. That sounded really good at inception, but times have changed dramatically.

Yes, there's needs to be a demonstrated minimum intelligence as well as a minimum amount of taxes paid (i.e. you paid more in than you got back). Won't happen, but it needs to.

Same thing extends to having children. You want to adopt? You get vetted like you might be a terrorist. You want to knock someone up? Go right ahead. We don't care how unfit you might be as a parent, take this baby home and we'll help you pay for taking care of it.

This is my biggest gripe about carry ons.

They say a book bag counts a personal item, so naturally people get one suitable for taking on the Appalachian Trail for month and pack it to the gills.

Then they get a duffle back that could fit a baby elephant in it and call that their carry on.

Meanwhile, I have my laptop bag and a small duffle bag that can fit under the seat.

So yeah, start charging for carry ons or enforce the size limits. Charge a penalty for the oversized carry ons.
