He's the starting QB.
UGA doesn't have recruits with huge NIL deals. But the starting QB at UGA is going to have NIL deals of a million dollars or so. Other big name starters also have big dollar NIL deals.
This avoids a divide because the guys at UGA making a ton of money are the guys who are making huge contributions to the team. You don't have a backup QB who was a big name recruit making more than the starter. It rewards performance.
At UGA, the better you play, the more NIL you make.

Besides the point, I know, but why are kids with tons of money buying a Lamborghini Urus? You have over a quarter million dollars to spend on a car, and you buy the world's most expensive compact SUV? Why not a Huracan? Why not a 296?
If you're going to buy a sports car, buy a sports car. If you're going to buy an SUV, buy a real SUV. Why buy a compact sports SUV made by Lamborghini?

And the comment was pure sarcasm. It’s not like Beck was going pro. He’s a couple decades out what the league expects in a QB, he’s a tall statue with no instincts for the game. At best he’s a late round one contract guy. So absolutely taking his 4 million NiL deal to play at UGA one more year.
Ya know, early on. the UGA fanboards had a lot of dudes calling for BVG or Gunner to start over Beck. In hindsight, they look pretty dumb.
But even those guys would applaud the pessimism in your take on Beck. I don't think he'll be a stud in the NFL, but this reads like he'll be praying to even be a backup

Hard to quantify "instincts", but he's not really a statue. WHile he's not a dual threat QB, he had over 100 yards rushing last season even factoring in sacks, and he was mobile enough (and instinctive enough) to not get sacked very often. Mobility wise he's about the same as Spencer Rattler. He's not immobile like Will Rogers or Graham Mertz (both negative yardage in rushing).
Your comment shows you don't really know much about his performance as a QB last season.

Ok..

Georgia football players had a total of 776 NIL deals from July 2021 to Jan. 26, 2023, according to information obtained in open records by the Athens Banner-Herald

quote:Stocktons contributed 2 TDs and a Int and around 200 yards last year as the 3rd string QB
Gunner Stockton's NIL deal worth stands at an impressive $102,000 annually

Brock Vandagriff's NIL deal is valued at $924K

So UGA does straight pay for play? Interesting.

If you are wearing slides to go pick up your 270k 657 hp car.... That just seems like something is off

Carson should buy the car instead of leasing. At least when he goes to sell he will get a lot of money.

That's not what pay for play is.
Pay for play is not about getting paid based on performance. It's about pay being tied to enrollment at a school.
UGA's players get paid more for higher performance because those who perform better are more famous, and fame drives advertising and endorsements that are the backbone of what NIL is supposed to be.
Starters get paid more because people know who they are and that means they have more NIL value.
They don't get a NIL deal in order to attend UGA. THAT is what pay to play is.
As for the numbers you put up, pretty much every player at UGA gets between 30-50 grand a year in NIL, even walk-ons. UGA walk-ons generally get enough NIL to cover room, board and tuition plus some extra. Effectively a NIL scholarship.
The numbers you put for Stockton and Vandagriff are "valuations", not actual NIL deal numbers. And Vandagriff's is his UK valuation, not at UGA. I wouldn't be shocked if either were making around 100 grand at UGA given they're QB's and that brings more name recognition.
UGA maintains their locker room by not having collectives that pay unproven HS recruits huge NIL deals to come to UGA. That creates scenarios where backups are raking in more money than starters which creates schisms in the locker room. At UGA, NIL deals are based on fame which is mostly becuase of performance. That keeps locker room issues from happening. I say "mostly" because there are some oddities. Tate Ratledge has a NIL deal with Barstool sports because of his mullett for example. Brock Vandagriff had one based on his impressive beard. But for the most part it's about who's made a name for themselves by playing football.
That is how NIL was intended to work. Fame from performance is supposed to drive getting NIL deals... not signing NIL deals driving players to sign at your school.
UGA is doing it the way the NCAA wants teams to do it. Tennessee is not.

A. College football locker rooms have almost always been divided into the haves and have-nots.
B. You have to be a tiny little baby to be mad that someone else is making money.

Even with those horrible rushing numbers Mertz evaded a lot of sacks and actually became an effective runner by the end of the season. I would personally put him just outside of the statue designation. I am not bias

I'll accept your evaluation.
I probably watched as much Graham Mertz football as the other guy watched Carson Beck.

With the way they drive over at UGA, he won't be around too long.

Hmm. Does purchasing a $270k car = making money? (I have no idea the terms of the deal, just making a statement)
Curious to see how many of these kids making millions have anything left once their talent runs out, or they get injured... and they are left with their 8th grade equivalent education.

His NIL value is like $1.1M, so if THAT doesn't divide the locker room, I don't see how this purchase would.
This is a drop in the bucket with that kind of money to throw around.
