That's a great point, however, I think there would be enough people willing to pay the premium for a private car, inefficiency be damned (vs. public transport, dealing with other people etc.).

You'd have to reach a point where it's outrageously expensive, a la private jets, before people give up their privacy.

I often think about this at red lights. Imagine an entire group of cars all taking off at the same time. No delay while someone reacts to the driver ahead of them.

The possibilities are huge. Robot cars could go faster than human reaction times allow. It could become the equivalent of driving a horse & buggy on the interstate
