Tyrann Mathieu is the best defensive player in same time frame. Nobody can compare to the plays that dude used to make. He's made plays on the field that I haven't seen before or since. Absolutely amazing football player. Geaux Honey Badger.
Eric Berry was in that time frame.

For one year, I will go with Manziel. Although Cam was awesome. Auburn had a much better defense than A&M.

If Cam would've pulled the trigger on going to Mississippi State, they would've moonwalked to a title. IIRC, their defense was loaded that year and they really had every opportunity to beat Auburn in Starkville. Weird thought.

There are quiet a few SEC teams had Cam played for they would have gone far, possibly winning it all as well.
He was a physical beast with speed to boot.
I was in attendance at a Carolina game few years ago in Atl. Very gracious before the game taking time with the kids.

Cam wrecked the whole goddamn league with a bunch of nobodies.
Agreed on all of your points, but this is a bit unfair.
Mike Dyer may have been a bum later in his career, but he was a five star recruit and an absolute stud as a freshman RB. Without Cam taking the spotlight, there would have been a lot more talk about his talent on the field.
The offensive line wasn't devoid of talent but more importantly, they had four seniors including a beastly anchor at left tackle in Lee Ziemba. Having a talented, experienced center is also a huge plus.
The receivers were certainly a weak spot, but there was plenty of speed on the offense. McCalebb is one of the fastest players to come through the SEC (4.28 40 at the combine).
I kinda take offense when our 2010 offense is considered a bunch of ragtag guys who lucked out with Cam Newton at QB.

We also had Nick Fairley at his peek in 2010. I dont care what anyone says, Nick 2010 was the best defensive lineman I have ever watched in my 35 years of college football. Dude just wrecked shite and was unstoppable. At times, 2 guys could not block him and others 3 could not block him
Fairley was a wrecking machine

Interestingly enough, Cam actually jukes out Mathiue in that LSU run. He was #14 at the time and Peterson wore #7.

When I saw “a bunch of nobodies” it’s more a relative reference than a literal one. As in, when you think of how dominant Cam was and start to compare him to other great QB seasons/teams - his talent is completely barren compared to the Tebow/Tua/Vince Young/Deshaun Watson etc. QB’s who had amazing seasons and led their teams to a natty. They had solid college players around him, but nothing near the type of talent that other QB’s who get mentioned in the same realm as Newton had.

He was the SEC’s Vince Young. And arguably better than VY.

AU didn’t have a bunch of no bodies on offense. Can had a great oline and a stud 5* WR in Dyer to help him. He was a great player but he has some great help too.

I wouldn’t say nobodies.
But in the Tebow vs Cam debate, Tebow had more talent around him on both sides of the ball.

Pat Dye said Bo Jackson was the best athlete he's ever seen, but Cam Newton was the best football player he's ever seen.

Quite a bargain for $200K wasn't he?

I love how the price grows as the years go by.

Pat Dye is correct! No athlete will ever touch Bo Jackson, EVER. I’m a Bammer and I love Bo.

Clanga was a Cam away from winning the natty
Hard to argue against him being one of the best
