NCAA should just not let them participate. Start your own league

You can't be this retarded.Any idea how much TV money finances CFB? Even the PAC-10 pays our between $30 to $35 million per team PLUS losing a cut of the $500 million CFB playoff/bowl money.

Again. There would be TV. So you are wrong.

Being a member of the NCAA is voluntary. But, they make the rules. California schools are free to leave at anytime.

What will happen is the richest of schools with the richest Alumni will become the power houses. 18 year olds could literally make more in the NCAA than NFL because there are no caps.

This could mean the NFL will have to pay players more! which drives up the cost of everything.

It would only up the ante. Base salary plus cheating on top.

They only get 4/5 years to play college ball. The NFL still holds all the cards

I have no problem with this because it is not divisible

Jesus, you're still here arguing this bullshite?

Once again, no major TV network is going to guarantee millions upon millions for an unknown, unproven commodity like your California College Conference. No top college prospects are going to gamble on a startup conference that goes its own way. Anyone with (a) two brain cells to rub together and (b) who has been watching college football longer than four weeks understands this.

On top of that, do you actually think UCLA is going to bail out of NCAA basketball to join?

NCAA isn't a "league" like the NFL and the NFL minimum is $480,000. That's a ton of autograph sessions and jerseys sold.

This is just the first domino. They will not be the last state to pass this kind of legislation. The genie is out of the bottle as far as compensation for amateur athletes is concerned. When all is said and done the discussion around "amateurism" and compensation will fundamentally change the dynamics of college football off the field.

Do you have any idea how TV works? And how conference contracts work?

Stop with the sementics bullshite. They couldn't replace the $30 to $35 million they're getting from the PAC 12 and absurd to think otherwise.

Sure there might be TV...much like there's TV for HS FB.

No it isn't?Do you think all of a sudden that LL players are going to get TV money for being in the LL world series?

Are fattie college softball players gonna start to do Burger King commercials?

The only place the argument is valid is P5 FB players and D1 men's basketball players and it would turn both sports into complete
clusterfricks.

But what are the other schools gonna do when all the top athletes flock to the Cali colleges because they can get paid like a mofo there? You give these kids a choice between a Dodge Charger and a national championship or $500,000 and tell me which they are going to choose.

If they are ineligible to compete, the TV, conference, bowl and student body growth $ from being a national brand dries up, so the "leniencies" allotted athletes in admissions and privileged scheduling likely goes away, too.

So, Cali schools would need to start their own semi-pro college league or the talent would steer away because it needs the NCAA competition to make the NFL

Man, I'm trying to understand your reasoning but it's just not happening.

You want to end cheating and level the field, but what you're really advocating for is the same result in a favorable light. If you assume Alabama is good bc they pay players more, they're still going to pay players more if it's allowed. What's the difference? It's not like UAB is all of a sudden going to be able to compete for players.

Also, California has USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal and then some very, very, very minor programs. That's not enough schools to support any kind of coups. The NCAA can excommunicate those schools and permanently kill their athletics programs, as revenue streams, without breaking a sweat. Sure, they could continue, but who would watch an all California league? I don't know what critical mass is for the number of schools needed to pull it off, but it's far more than will ever consider this move.

If this idea was tenable, there would have been a successful alternative league that paid rising high school stars long, long ago. You needn't involve universities at all to do that.

No...according to the other states taking up the matter. It's even being push at the US Congress level.

Courts have ruled that the only condition is that the pay be tied to his education.

AND as an update for you here is what Cali just told the NCAA:

quote:

"I just want to say, 'NCAA, don't threaten California. Don't threaten us,'" Democratic Sen. Sydney Kamlager-Dove said Monday, per USA Today. "Because we have formidable schools. We have formidable alumni. And we have formidable viewership.
