Better hope he doesn't implode in year 2 of this contract because there's no backing out now.
I think DeBoer is a very, very, good coach. But saying that is different than saying I think he will survive the expectations at Alabama.
The extension at this time is, to say the least, odd. Was it a signal to the BMDs to toe the line and pony up more money lest a failure of his tenure at the program implode the whole thing?
Another 3-4 loss season going into ‘26 isn’t unfathomable. The rank and file Bama fan would become extremely noisy at that.
Much like Texas losing three games again this year is not unfathomable with our schedule.. God forbid, it would be a bloodbath here.

He doesn’t have to do shite. He’s doing his job the best as he thinks. If the BOT doesn’t like what he’s doing with hires and contracts, they can fire him.

Way to go through their second coaching search in two years?

Leverage, Kiffin will do the same.

Locked into the decline now.

Shortsighted lulz. I hope you realize that this means Lane will demand a raise and an extension sometime during midseason next year.

Tennesse
fans pissed he left after 1 year. not necessarily controversial, maybe immature. probably 99% of this board (outside of Tenn) takes the USC job over Tenn job.
quote:
Ole Miss
spent 6 years there, built them up, was fairly upfront on his direction to leave and wanting to coach this team. fans pissed, not necessarily controversial, other than media making this way overblown because of 'muh playoff run', where your lord and savior said, this is not an LSU issue or Ole Miss issue, or LK issue, its a timing issue with the CFB calendar.
quote:
fired at Bama
because he was building his staff at another HC job he took. not overly controversial, just hard to manage working for 2 different bosses. only controversy on this issue is on this board debating whether he left or got fired, neither answer matters at all. he was already a HC somewhere else splitting his time.
quote:
Screwing coeds, boosters wives
not aware of all of these, maybe some truth, prolly likely a lot of shite added on. all in his personal life. if he's winning, zero controversy at all, unless there were some ethics violations involved which i'm sure we would have heard by now.
quote:
his time at Raiders
Al Davis hired a 33'ish year old, never been a HC before, as his HC. who by the way, the young HC told him to draft Megatron and NOT russell. the owner went with the wrong player. he was fired after 1.25 seasons, like a lot of coaches are after a failed experience. hardly controversial.
all in all, i thought you were a drama queen, and you proved it. thanks

Maybe we should have just signed him to a 10 year deal right out of the gate, like LSU did with Kelly.

How many teams can say they were shutout in the national title game?

At this point, you've committed to him for 9 years, and over $10mil more than Kelly received...

What you did seems dumber. You panicked a let a guy who bookended his second regular season with 14+ point losses (one of which was to a 5-7 ACC team) strong arm you into an extension

No one said that. He was first option because Kirby is not leaving Georgia, Sarkesian was not leaving Texas and we couldn’t survive the bidding war and Kiffin was never an option even though a large portion of the fan base wanted him. Several radio host in Alabama told the fans he was not an option with certain behaviors that rubbed boosters the wrong way when he was OC. Anytime your HC leaves or is fired there’s a coaching search. Don’t be a dolt.

Eh, at the rate inflation is going it'll be about the equivalent of an extra order of fries.

To help lock him up for an amount no school would par for the next few years(the buyout). If you like him as an AD, see no issue with it.
