His current deal went through 2031.

Maybe the Penn State or Michigan rumors had legs?

Michigan just hired Kyle Whittingham.

You didn't know he made it to the SECCG and second round of the CFP?

How many coaches in SEC history can say they lost by 3 TD's in the SECCG and 5 TD's in the CFP?

Keep up with the Jones is my guess. My guess there were inquiries from others through his agent and Greg needed to make a gesture to entice him to not listen to those folks. Same reason why the GM got a huge guess. What tail wipes like you dont realize is things go on behind the scenes that people dont share in public.

And before they did, they were rumored to be interested in KDB.

The raise/extension for KDB was likely negotiated a while ago. Today was just the BoT meeting where they approved new contracts for several coaches/staff across different sports.

Greg Byrne was asked by a BOT if these contracts were necessary to stay competitive nationally.

"Absolutely. It is a significant investment by our department, by our university. It is something that we spent a lot of time in researching on and making sure we're competitive in the marketplace, and at the same time, too, making sure we have the right people in these positions.

"I know I've spoken with President Mohler about this, and our trustees about this, this importance of stability during this time we're in right now, and we believe this gives us an opportunity to do that with the men and women that are leading our programs."

Eerily reminiscent of Aggie needlessly extending Jimbo in 2021.

Then they are really dumb for not calling his bluff right then and there.

Way to go through their second coaching search in two years? We’d like to stay off the coaching carousel we’ve watched Auburn and LSU go through the last few years. Deboer is a great coach. He’s not Saban but no one else is right now either nor will there be as long as this is the system in place. Making the playoffs is the mark of a good coach and program.

It is in today’s CFB. If you have visions of grandeur of seeing OsU even come close to what Alabama was from 2008 to 2020 prepare to be disappointed. The best coach in CFB Kirby Smart has not won a playoff game since we went to a 12 team playoff.

Wow, an Alabama fan saying something complimentary about Lane Kiffin!

Sure, but some pretty average coaches/programs have made the CFP. Heck, TCU made the natty in a 4 team playoff a few years ago.

No one ever said Kiffin was not a good coach. It’s the other crap that is the concern and when it bleeds over into his performance. He has never gone anywhere that’s didn’t end in controversy of some kind. That’s the legacy he has built. Maybe he’s figured it out but he’s going to have to prove it.

I’m just saying the best coach in CFB has not won a game in the playoffs n two years with first game exits. If it’s happening to him in the current landscape then why would it be any different for any other program or coach. Now that we’ve gone to a 9 game sec schedule it’s going to get worse and let’s face it TCU making the playoffs is an oversimplification of what’s happening now. They didn’t make it from the big ten or sec.

Heupel made the playoff from the SEC and I don't think he really deserves an extension.

No way those fans were not crazy to be questioning of Alabama AD making those transitions.
