The best way to avoid playing 5 games is to win 3 games with the pitchers he’s talking about. Also more “student athletes” get a chance to play meaningful ball in the post season because of the format.

Post season baseball tournament format is elite and people like this should be ridiculed

When you are a -2100 favorite in the opener vs a team like Milwaukee and lose 13-7, looking inward would be the better response here.

How the hell would anyone think that saying this publicly would be a good thing? He sounds like a giant pussy.

He needs to look in the mirror then. To win a regional, you must have a deep bullpen and excellent starters. The regional is what tests a team's pitching. The super regionals don't require that as much because it is a series. The baseball post season tests all aspects of a team, which is what makes it great.

Sounds like a roster management issue.

This his first rodeo?

Somethings are just too easy.

Jim Schlossnagle

"It's frustrating that our postseason doesn't mirror our regular season," Schlossnagle said. "... If we're going to truly give the teams who earn the right to host and be the higher seeds, if you're going to try to get the best teams in Omaha, then the postseason needs to mirror the regular season. We need to be playing three weekends of three-game series. Then you find out, where you don't have these weird weekends of rain and matchups and pitching off."

He just won his 5th Regional in the last 8 Seasons.

It seams like a fair point for the Regional Format. It's not like he's the only only coach advocating for it.

LINK

quote:

Following Sunday's 6-4 win over UC Santa Barbara that advanced UT to the NCAA super regionals for the first time since 2023, UT's head coach suggested the NCAA should change the format of its postseason. Schlossnagle pointed out that best-of-three series make up the bulk of the regular season, but series are only used to decide the super regionals and College World Series championships.

Except Schlossnagle (a) swept his regional and (b) didn't break out the self serving "what's best for student athletes" crap when he gave this opinion months ago.

And the last game of your season was a loss to Auburn.

This thread is full of people throwing bricks at their glass houses. Funny as hell.

I saw that earlier and was very disappointed.

I posted in another thread as well, but basically he’s complaining because he didn’t have the guts to utilize his full roster. There is zero question that he had guys dressed and available that he never went to all weekend or even guys that threw very little that he just didn’t trust to put out there.

I’ll be pissed if this sentiment gains traction and ends up ruining regional weekend in a few years. He and any other coaches complaining need to zip it and either win the thing in three games or have the guts to put another guy you recruited out on the mound.

It is not about player safety when the coach has the ability and option to put a fresh guy on the mound and chooses not to. If player safety is that much of concerns, then he needs to look himself in the mirror and ask why he prioritized winning over his guys health.

That’s exactly what butch did. He didn’t do what he was saying is an issue (guys throwing full 100 pitch starts than pitching again that weekend)

If I were him I’d be more upset about them scheduling a top 8 seed for the midnight games.
