Why would he want to go to Baton Rouge?

It is only part of the answer, because Arkansas used to be a national brand at one point. Nixon going to the game and all.

There are always going to be little factors but the in state talent alone is the biggest and it really isn't close. It points to the whole reason we need to recruit Texas.

Main recruiting area is north Arkansas, South Missouri, and East whateverhellstateiswestofthat.

You forget that Louisiana is to the south and Texas isn't too far away?

Bert pulled quite a bit of talent out of Florida as well.

Its not like we cant get it done, unlike Ole Miss though, we dont use hookers to attract players (unfortunately)

Fayetteville

Most locations with "ville" in its name is probably too MAGA for top tier recruits that can go anywhere. 3* will hedge to be in the SEC. None that could put you in the Top 10 or 20.

Clearly the top 4

I think the others can change a lot depending on the years but that looks about right.

I guess my point was that when Nixon went to that 1969 game Arkansas WAS using Texas boys to be a name brand program. And back then it was very normal for kids to play out of state.

Another example: why does Nebraska suck now? You could point to their local talent, which sucks, but that would ignore the years when they dominated despite that shitty local talent. So instead you have to look at what changed for them, and it was obviously the end of semi-qualified athletes, a destruction of their pipeline to Compton (partially because they kids couldn't qualify anymore), and a greater distribution football games on TV that made their brand less special.

Lousiana and Missouri in the same tier is a crime.

The real answer is two-fold:

1. Their local talent sucks.

2. Texas successfully blackballed them after they left the SWC for the SEC and basically made the program irrelevant for the next few generations of Texas kids who came up after that time.

This/ is the best answer. I don't agree that it's because Texas blackballed us, but far less exposure in Texas has been huge.

Btw, we've actually played Texas a few times since we left the SWC, and once even put the series on hold, so we could play USC-W. Texas is scheduled to come to Fayetteville in 2021 right now and the game's scheduled for 9/11...

That's not saying they are equal, that's just putting a slike minded states together as I could. Louisiana certainly doesnt belong with Florida, Texas or Georgia compared to Alabama, Mississippi, etc...

Missouri was at the bottom of Tier 2, could argue they should be above South Carolina though

Yep. I think most posters will undervalue Missouri just because of the Mizzou program of the past 2-3 years. Just based on population that state will turn out more CFB players than most in the league

Sure, I took the question more as to why can't it happen now.

You can definitely point to many things along the way starting in the 70s that slowly made the lack of instate talent more impactfull because we were not pulling as many Texas kids.

TF?

GainsVILLE, KnoxVILLE? Granted Florida and Tennessee have sucked recently, but they still draw recruits.

You really think conservative local politics deters recruits? Don't be stupid. If it did then why doesn't the SEC lose recruits to the PAC?

Arkansas might be known as racist, but it doesnt matter what your color is. If you suck, your truck will get lit on fire
