This could be said from an Arkansas fan talking about Auburn too though.

Not the recruiting part. Atlanta, Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, and the Florida Panhandle are all within 2 hours of Auburn and all put out more recruits than anywhere in Arkansas. Auburn might be in the country, but its also right smack in the middle of prime recruiting territory.

Outside of sports, I bet Fayetteville is more known than Auburn, AL. Just saying.

Probably, but this thread is literally about sports and recruiting, so that's kind of relevant to the topic and Auburn is a much more known football program than Arkansas. Recent successes, famous alumni like Cam, Bo, and Barkley, and all that sports related stuff can make Auburn relevant anywhere in the country. Healthy successful sports programs are shown to help the entire campus, and recruit regular out of state students so sports are relevant to the whole town the college is in.

Hogs had an idiot as an A.D. that literally set the program back 25 years when he fired Petrino. He then hired two raving idiots afterward in John L. Smith and then Bret Bielema.

Odds are Petrino would have left by now, but what Long did should have never been allowed. It's almost like they're now a new team in the SEC and are starting at point 0.

If Morris doesn't have this team vastly improved this season, he could be shown the door also.

You would have rather the school been sued instead of firing Bobby? I was a huge Petrino fan myself but even I know there was no way he was getting out of that with his job once the rumors of their shenanigans leading to her job within the department came out.

This is what we hear most times when we can get recruits up there. Got to get coaches who can get those players to at least visit and that would help a lot.

Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas all have great in-state talent. They can fill their rosters from their home state, and try and recruit regionally and nationally to get them from good to great. Arkansas has no such luxury. Virtually all your recruiting is out of state, and that's harder.

Infiltrate DFW with a coach with ties to Texas high school football. Play Oklahoma State or OU every year in order to lock down Tulsa talent.

I was honestly asking because maybe a majority of people do feel that way. Not trying to say LR is some great, safe city when looking at other comparable cities. Just never really had any issues.

I've lived in LR for the better part of 40 years. It's certainly not a safe city, but the crime issue is overblown, mostly by other residents of the state.

If HBO had not aired that documentary, people likely wouldn't even be talking about the crime in Little Rock. It's not that documentary was untrue, but it did sensationalize some things that were happening in similarly-sized cities around the nation. I was actually living in the middle of the gang infested area at that time and the worst crime I've ever experienced in Little Rock was having some packages stolen out of my unlocked car.

Which is funny because of how highly y'all praised Long at the time

Beliema was a huge hire. He was highly successful before Arkansas and on paper y'all couldn't have possibly have made a better hire. That was a huge surprising steal for Arkansas at the time.

Don't even try and act like you weren't ecstatic about Bert.

quote:

How can you possibly justify not firing Petrino in that situation, especially after all the lies? There was no other option for Long, it was a no win situation and he did the right thing.

If the goal is to put the final nail in the Arkansas coffin and kill the program for good then be my guest. I have no problem with that, but itd be the stupidest decision y'all could possibly make.

The revisionist history this off-season from Arkansas and State fans regarding their coaching changes has certainly been amusing to watch.
Fans of both schools have the same problem IMO: your expectations for your school are way too high. Y'all need to just take a step back and realize who you are. Admit your place in this world and accept it. Just because you're capable of a solid season every once in a while doesn't change the fact that most years y'all are going to objectively suck, and have some downright awful seasons as well. It is what it is, deal with it.

Huh? How do you arrive at that? We fired Bert after going 29-34 after 5 seasons. You are letting the SEC banter get to your head.

That guy you responded to isn't even close to the average Arkansas fan, hence why he has been called out more than once.

Uh, that's not happening. And if it did, good luck getting a single coach of note to follow him.

Would make even more sense, there is this other Bama fan I have argued with before over Petrino's firing. Amazing that people still believe it would have been better to keep him.

If I am not mistaken, high school football in Arkansas did not even have spring practice until a few years ago.

Back in 1988 I went from playing Louisiana high school football to D-II college football in Arkansas.

One thing I remember is that we had quite a few Arkansas guys who had played in their High School All-Star game. Now, at one point we had about 45 players on the roster from Louisiana (Laffy, BR, NOLA, Cenla & NELA). Not one of us played in the LA All-Star Game.

We had some real good players from Arkansas, but the overall talent level wasn't what we'd seen growing up in Louisiana.

Just seems like as a whole y'all generally expect to be on the same level as Auburn or LSU. Y'all are certainly capable of having a great season and making a strong run but Idk if y'all are capable of getting over the hump, and y'all are just as capable as having a terrible bottom dwelling season.
Two really strong seasons a decade, two god awful seasons a decade, and the rest of the time middle of the lack 6-8 wins is about what I expect out of Arkansas.

I really believe this is just tRant banter that you are taking as a representation of our fan base as a whole. Besides the crazy fans, the only Arkansas fans that have the extreme expectations are the older ones that were actually around when Arkansas was a top 5/10 talent, at least in my experience.

Main recruiting area is north Arkansas, South Missouri, and East whateverhellstateiswestofthat.

Pretty garbage high school football in that area.

Arkansas shares borders with Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. I haven't checked, but there may not be another state in the Union that shares state borders with as many neighboring states as Arkansas does. Missouri is of course an anchor, but TX, LA, OK, and MS are all states that produce excellent CFB prep talent, and TN seems to have gotten better in recent years.

It is an excellent question why Arkansas is not able to recruit better than it typically does....
