Didn’t we have Jeff Grimes a few years ago? I seem to remember us not being happy with him and that we wanted his dad back. Am I thinking correctly? Or did I get that backwards?

Jeff Grimes came with Chizik. He recruited lights out at the Oline position, and those big road graders that paved the way for one of the most dominant rushing attacks in college football history in 2013 were his recruits. After Chizik was fired, Malzahn (dumbass) released him. Grimes went to VT, and then to LSU. And at LSU, he recruited that Oline that helped them win the national championship in 2019.

Grimes was an awesome OL recruiter… all of the 2013 guys were his recruits… actual coaching was a little more suspect.

That said, our OL and OL recruiting has largely been garbage since his recruits graduated/left the program. That’s a fact.

OFC, all the talk of Grimes, doesn't mean diddly, since we have NO idea, rumor or inside guessing, that Harsin thinks he's a fit for OC and or OL.

We seem to throw names out there we want but have zero connection to Harsin. So it's hard to believe Harsin is going to bring in a guy he hasn't worked with or gone up against...(like he referenced w/ Bobo).

Does Grimes even run any type of offense like Harsin's?

Grimes and Malzahn never jived. Grimes was a north/south block guy while Malzahn wanted to pull guards and such.

Grimes was a great recruiter.

Malzahn also liked letting guys go unblocked on the backside. Remember when Myles Garrett destroyed us? Yeah, I'd have a problem with that too.

Grimes probably isn't an option because it doesn't make much sense for him to move seeing as he's close to becoming a HC, but Harsin would absolutely know him: Grimes coached at BYU for 3 seasons and they have played against Boise State (BYU beat Harsin 51-17 last season) as well as other common opponents. Harsin is obviously connected with and knows the coaches in that region of the country. Furthermore, their paths didn't cross, but Grimes was the OL coach at Boise State for one season in 2000. Harsin played at Boise from 1995-1999 and was at Eastern Oregon in 2000 before coming back as a GA at Boise in 2001.

Maybe he takes the OC job at auburn and if harsin gets the axe he could get a shot at HC

To me it's close but in the era of Kelly and Riley and Jimbo hires, and Napier being seen as a lackluster hire by some (stupidly, IMO), we might be in a period where a decent sized school is a bit more hesitant than in prior years to roll the dice on Grimes straight from a Baylor coordinator gig. Perhaps that's a mark in our favor.

That said, he's in a nice spot with Aranda, no confusion over the offensive identity, etc.

Grimes is probably a pipe dream at this point. I still think we get Zak; he’s the most likely anyway.

Jeff Grimes is not J.B. Grimes.

Hokanson said this morning on Locked on Auburn that he doesn't think Harsin hires from within, or it would've already been announced. He thinks they'll be announced before early signing day, but they may be coaching in a conference championship game this weekend. So it might be next week.

Also brought up a name nobody has said yet, Graham Harrell. I guess that wouldn't be a bad hire. USCheat had a top 25 offense 2 of his 3 years there.

I guess FootballScoop expects Hill to at least be a top consideration.

Who said he was?

No one has even mentioned JB Grimes, as most of us would prefer to forget him.

The best line talent Auburn has had in the past 10 years was brought in by Jeff Grimes.
