The big ten - sitting out the season

I know they keep talking about starting up but a vote to do that has not happened. What is the long-term fallout from losing a year of football?? Forget the spring thing, I don't believe that will happen. Losing a year of football can set them back, I don't see how it can't. What are the recruiting ramifications?? Guys not playing a year, what about their football skills?? I haven't mentioned the financial hit, who knows how deep that will be. If you don't play I assume there is no TV money.
The PAC, the others to fold up, barely plays football as it is. They don't draw at the gate and they don't draw TV ratings. No one is going to miss them much. It would not surprise me to see PAC program/programs revamp their college athletics rather drastically.

I don't think the sport will ever be the same. I'm afraid we'll see CFB further become a regional sport that is completely Southeast-centric. Ohio State and a few big programs that sit out this season will eventually come back, but I'm not sure how programs like Cal, Oregon State, Purdue, Northwestern, etc. ever recover.

The financial hit will be catastrophic. Ohio State, for example, stands to lose $130+ million. That would kill a lot of programs.

I’ve been visiting the forums of the strongest teams in the Big X and the PAC, Ohio State and Oregon, and there is a strong difference in the attitudes toward the football shutdown. OSU fans are furious and some seem ready to bolt from the Big X. Oregon fans accept it and actually seem to think that shutting down was the right thing to do.

yea,I don't get the Pac 12 mindset. Of course there are some players, coaches and fans upset. But you really don't hear anything from the West Coast on the subject about college football. Total apathy.

What you’re witnessing is our society falling beneath a certain competency threshold for society to properly function. There’s no reason to not have football this year....yet it’s happening. There’s no reason to shut down society and shutter all the small businesses....yet it’s happening.

I think the vested BIG schools can survive because of their future TV earnings. Worst case they take out long term loans against it to get em through this year.
Not so sure about the PAC 12
Not so sure about the PAC 12

It will forever change the landscape of college sports if they actually sit out the season. Even if the play at this point the effect of this will be felt in recruiting for many years. Thats not even considering the effect on the non revenue sports. It's great for us though.

It’s not just football that won’t be the same. Our society is turning into a Brazil or South Africa ....except without a superpower outside our borders to keep the ship right when needed. We aren’t really a 1st world country anymore...we’re something else.

This is a stretch. It's laughable seeing all these commercials about "the new normal". None of this shite is "normal"

where have you been? It's been this way for a while now, at least a decade.

When have NW, purdue, and oregon state ever been a factor on the national scene lately?
For over 20 years now CFB has been centered around the southeastern united states plus OSU/OU plus a few others here and there on various years.

everyone remembers the SMU death penalty...the PAC has basically vote to give that to themselves

Don't think he's referring to it on national scale as being semi competitive in their conference.I know
NW built one of the better FB facilities in the country
a few years ago and obviously things aren't great at all schools mentioned but it could get much worse

They may not matter on a national scale but you do realize college sports are primarily regionally based? If there are no teams to fill a conference then the conference folds and the schools that do matter nationally either go independent(which fricks things up for playoffs) or get square pegged ito a round hole in a conference they don't fit regionally. That alone gives credence to the fact that college sports will never be the same as we know it. I have confidence it will get worked out somehow down the road. Too much money at stake for those irrelevent schools that are along for the payout.

teams like oregon state and purdue aren't going to fold their football program becuase of one year of loss. When things get back to normal they will for sure have taken a hit, but they will be just as much of an also-ran in their conference than they typically are. Maybe they'll finish last in the conference instead of almost last. But teams like that are 90 years out of 100 not going to compete wiht the big dawgs in their conference anwyay.

SUPER CONFERENCES!

The Attorney General of Ohio has advised OSU to file a lawsuit against the B1G.

It’s where we’re headed, IMO

you're implying these schools don't know how to operate an athletic department with a weak football program and all they do is operate an athletic department with a weak football program. no one is more prepared to do this than they are.

Are you high? Football is a money maker even at schools like Purdue. They aren't going to quit playing football just because they're out a year. That's like saying Georgia will quit playing basketball because they suck donkey at it
