Tennessee, the national 1-seed heading in the NCAA Tournament, earned a 7-2 victory over Florida State on Tuesday that secured a spot in the best-of-three Men's College World Series championship.
The Volunteers improved to 3-0 in the tournament by beating the Seminoles in a rematch from their MCWS opener. The Vols won that one, 12-11, after trailing by three runs entering the ninth inning.
They did not need late-inning dramatics to dispatch Florida State this time.
Riding the solid pitching of starter Zander Sechrist and relievers Kirby Connell and Nate Snead, the Vols held the dangerious FSU lineup mostly at bay for the entire contest.
