Mike Leach = Overrated

Leach is the most overrated coach in the history of College Football.

In 8 seasons at Washington State:

*He had just one season with 10 wins or more
*He had just one season with a Top 25 finish
*He had 4 losing seasons (including 2019)
*He was a combined 6-19 against Final AP Top 25 teams

Of his six wins against Final AP Top 25 teams, four were by 3 points or less. Only one time in 26 tries did he beat an AP Top 25 team by more than a Touchdown.

In 11 games against Top 25 opponents (42%), he lost by 3 Touchdowns or more.

But everyone says, "But he led Washington State to a Top 10 finish!!! If he did that at Washington State, surely he can do that someplace else!!!"

First off, 3 of the last 4 coaches who've coached in Pullman had a Top 10 finish... so he's not unique. And four of the last 5 head coaches at Wazzu had a Final Top 16 finish.

But its worth examining the one season Leach at Washington State to see how he pulled off a Top 10 finish (2018):

Of his 11 wins:

*3 were against teams that were either FCS or finished with 2 wins or fewer
*7 were against teams that were either FCS or finished with 6 losses or more
*Zero were against teams with fewer than 4 losses

Leach played just one opponent all season long that finished in the AP Top 25... #13 Washington... and he lost by 13 points.

So in the one decent season he had in Pullman, he failed to even beat a Top 25 opponent.

Sorry State, but you just overpaid.
