Volantis was THE BEST reliever in the SEC. Had Dylan been the second or third best reliever in the SEC, sure but he was THE top guy and a Golden Spikes semifinalist, which Curiel was not.

I’d much rather have Volantis. A true shutdown pitcher in college baseball is very rare. A 1.70 ERA and 11 saves in SEC play is ridiculous, frankly.

Curiel seems like a nice little player for sure but an .810 OPS in SEC play is good but hardly special.

No doubt Volantis was more valuable this year

Georgia wins 7-5. Need SCar to beat LSU and I think we can sneak into the top 4 and get the double bye.

I don’t really care about Hoover, mostly because Wes doesn’t seem to care. The new format helps a bit but we aren’t gonna pitch any guy out of schedule.

Last year we started a guy with like 2 IP in SEC play. The only way we see Finley or Curley is if we make it to Friday/Saturday. Look to see Zach Brown or Charlie Goldstein on the mound in the opening game.

We locked up the national seed today, which is the most important thing.

He and Kolten are in a bad head space right now but at least some guys are stepping up.

Hate it for Charlie but the only way he should pitch again this year is if we need someone to eat innings. He’s mediocre about 20% of the time and bad the other 80%

At least with Kolten it feels like you have around a 50/50 shot of getting a good outing from him. I think we will need him if we want to make a run. Despite his struggles, I still think he’s the most likely of anyone on staff to put forth a 7/8 inning dominant performance that are so big in postseason play.
Wes Johnson will say he doesn’t believe in closers but he absolutely has been using Zach Harris as one as of late.

Since moving from mid-week starter to bullpen:

6 App
7 IP
3 H
0 R
0 BB
13 K
4/4 Saves

Absolutely nasty tonight

Love what AJ’s done these last few times out but he’s been very lucky in the sense that he’s given up a ton of hard hit balls this season that turn into outs.

Here is the exit velos of all of his non strikeout outs today:

110
93
103
95
90
104
116
101

Some of this is the Braves defense. The other part is luck. I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts getting shelled next time out

Make that 19-3

Would be embarrassing to lose the series after this

Dawgs up 18-3
Between this and graduation this week, traffic on South Milledge will be brutal. Gonna have to use Riverbend to get anywhere
Definitely don’t think we deserve #1. I’d say there’s a 50/50 shot Bama sweeps up this weekend

They are still trying at least. Bet they grab one from Moo St in the final
weekend

#1 in RPI
#3 in ELO
4th in SEC Standings
Likely National Seed

Yet I want to kill myself every time I watch them.

3rd in SEC Standings now :nana:

I think we’ve also been conditioned by UGA football that if we aren’t skull fricking teams and controlling games, the world is coming to an end and that’s not how baseball works

I can assure you that’s not the case. This team is really tough to watch 90% of the time. On the batter’s side we strike out and can’t get runners in.

On the pitching side we give up free passes at an alarming rate. We likely finish with a better record than last year’s team but this team is wayyyy tougher to watch

Because we play with our food

I’m not sure this is the best way to word this.

I’d say it’s more like our food nearly kills us but we manage to finish them off with our dying breaths

Delay in UGA game as the Missouri OF had to get a replacement glove from the dugout since he lost his trying to rob a HR

Lots of good games this weekend, but all the pressure is on Georgia not to become Mizzou's first victim.

We need to sweep them but it’s definitely not a given.

With their large field, incoming weather, the possibility of DH games this weekend, and our tendency to give up a lot of walks, I could easily see us dropping one

Kendall continues to be a joke. Clemson gets swept and moves from 2 to 3.

Pretty sure D1 has 10+ guys on staff that make up the rankings

Dawgs need to win this series to stop the slide.

Grab 2 of 3 here, take care of Mizzou next week and things are looking good again at 15-9 in the SEC
Still, plenty of guys who’ve sat below league average for multiple years still getting major league contracts
I’m frankly surprised nobody signed him to a major league deal

Here’s how he’s compared to the league average OPS each year:

2017: -.206
2018: -.022
2019: +.059
2020: +.104
2021: +.049
2022: +.026
2023: +.011
2024: -.064

5 solid years in a row followed by one bad one
