Aggies: was it worth it?

Not meant to flame. But in all honesty was the firing of Jimbo worth losing the number of players to the portal, and working on a “do more with less” edict?
Honestly, I think you all jumped the gun.
Very good defense that was going to be full of JRs next year.
Good to great OL
12 team expansion to playoffs 2024
I just don’t see how sending Jimbo off with $77m and watching a roster implode somehow equates to an upgrade to the program.
At the very least, Jimbo was continue to being on top 10 classes with 12 team playoff birth in sights year after year.
Maybe the status quo was the way to go for the time being.

They were embarrassed for paying a guy 10 mil a year guaranteed and felt they needed to do something.

They are farming coaches from Duke and SMU.

OP, I think you make very good points.
A&M compounded the problem by pulling the trigger too quick on Fisher.

It's not like they've run off 2 guys who won natties for them, in 16 years

similar to when we cut O. sucks at the time but best thing for the program in the long run

With great power comes great responsibility.
Those two coaches were not living up to their responsibilities.
Taking recent and past Texas AM history
With meh power comes meh responsibility. Jimbo was right in line with everyone else. Remember bear Bryant could only pull off a .610 winning percentage there. Jimbos was .640.
It is a place that even the proven greats can only achieve mediocrity.
No offense aggies

You are looking at it from the wrong perspective.. by doing it this year, they are playing with house money against Texas next year.
They will be expected to lose that game now, but if they win, they will gain momentum and have something to sell.
They may argue this fact, but their big money boosters care a whole lot about that game next year, and this gives them an easy out if they lose.
1st year coach.. just wait until he gets his guys.. next year is the year.. rinse and repeat.
Just my two cents..

By firing Jimbo, that is an admission that it was not worth the contract extension.
But in this day and age… there is a lot of transfer portal and poaching even from solid teams - such as Ohio State for example.
We were going to lose recruits even with Jimbo staying. There is no guarantee Jimbo would’ve kept them with all the negative recruiting going on.
So getting the right coach is more important.

The OL was terrible, but it could have improved a lot.

Nope, knew what you had with Jimbo.

OL and OL coach were worst unit on team.
quote:are you saying that because a bunch of mediocre players are in the portal? Nolan is a loss but the guy wants 7 figures in NIL. He isn’t worth that. Y’all can pay him.
watching a roster implode

Just the opposite 2 years in a row. Our Oline was bad.

So 1 every 8 years. After this year, Bama will have a rate of 1 for every 7 years since 2017. I dunno, it’s getting pretty close…

I don't think they would have fired Jimbo this year if Texas and OU were not joining the SEC next year.
Posted on 12/8/23 at 8:25 am to Covingtontiger77
Reality set in. THEY PLAY TEXAS NEXT YEAR. Losing to Texas with Jimbo in his 7th year would have been too embarrassing. Now they have the first year coach. Excuse. It’s really that simple with them

A&M should be embarrassed. They tried to pay to win a championship but ultimately went 7-5. fricking embarrassing.

I don't think people get how pissed the aggies probably are that Sark is in the CFP only in his third year.

I am sure they are upset but they have their all male cheerleaders to console them and rub their backs.
The SEC's only trans female cheer squad!
