I remember a clip of Pat Dye saying he always wanted to meet the parents so he could see what the young man was going to grow into.

Pat Dye would say today you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shite as well...

And it's not 1988 anymore. Players want to play on "super teams".

my point was.......there is talent out there everywhere that is not highly rated. There is no way they can "rate" all of these HS kids.

One of the bama players that was kicked out of school for beating up and robbing students was from here. He was the #9 rated player in the nation. I watched that bunch play two handful of games over his last two years in HS. Dude wasn't the best player on his own team. Again.....people get hung up on *'s.

We get into this coach ‘em up 3* / stars matter conversation every year one way or another

Along with the recruit better/coach better discussion.

You want 3*’s that develop just like you want 5*’s that develop. You always want both. That’s the answer to any of these debates

Team Composite Rankings for AU per 247 since 2015.

We need an NCAA Composite Coach Ranking system. That would give every team a better guage of their championship potential compared to their talent level.

I think 2010 Auburn at around 10ish overall was the lowest composite talent level that has won a championship in about the last 20 years.

Coaching is very important. Jimmy's and Joe's are more important when it comes to teams with elite talent.

I want both says agreeable Jones.

Well I dont. We do not absolutely have to have three stars. We can have a few. You know- a few three stars where we feel pretty solid about the position so we are willing to take a chance on someone that isnt going to hurt you even if he fails.

What we do not want is signing a 6'8 Nigerian soccer player when our OL is still shite. That makes no sense.

Yes you did

It’s a fun theoretical I guess but it’s not practical. You can have both good coaching and good recruiting. And if you have both then you want more talent to work with than less

What we need to get out of the business of, is the 5* that develops into a 3*.

Yeah. We like doing that.

We don't need what Florida has going on right now.

I can recognize an offense stuck in mud. I have seen it for the better part of our last decade.

Florida is in for a long year. Wouldn’t be shocked to see them go 6-6 or worse.

With how they played last night they will be lucky to go 6-6

Having a great recruiting class probably gives Napier some breathing room, but a lot of what happened last night was the result of a poorly coached and prepared team, imo.

Those penalties were just ridiculous.

Blood in the water. Their class just became a target for everyone in the SEC.

Also as bad as out OL was last year.. UF was equally as bad or worse. That was horrible to watch. That's not even taking into account how under prepared and unorganized they looked. Billy Harsin over there.

High ranked recruiting classes don’t give coaches breathing room… if anything it makes it worse on a coach.

Watched about half of that game. Florida really wasn't ready to play. Very sloppy.

I think highly rated classes mean less than ever if a coach shows he can’t utilize that talent.

In the past, you wait and get the great class, maybe you fire the guy next year and then your new coach has something to work with. In the portal era a huge chunk of your talent will leave if things start trending down or you make a coaching change. The new coach will be rebuilding the roster one way or the other.

Obviously it’s better to get the great recruits signed and on campus but that’s not the end of it these days. Holding onto a coach for players who can and will just leave doesn’t seem wise.
