The more I see Harsin the more I think about how many people did not want Steele. What do you think the program would look like under Kevin Steele and would it be a vast improvement over what we have now?

We probably beat LSU and but still lose to PSU in a closer one.
And much more talent.

I know I didn't.

Don't know about vast, but I think we'd be better off than we are now.

I know we’d have a better DL coach/ recruiter

Maybe marginally better in the short term, nowhere near threatening to compete for championships.

I think it would depend on who he would have brought in for staff. If it was Bobo as OC then no thanks. I never liked him or his play calling.
I think he could have been successful depending on his staff...Who knows...

No regerts. Harsin had a good resume.

I don't know if he would be better X's and O's but I can feel very confident that he would have recruited way better because he would have put great recruiting coaches in place.

Considering Harsin is the worst coach in AU history... probably better.
That said, both poor options.

Steele would have recruited at least 1 more OL I bet.

This right here, Harsin looked way better on paper, but you never know how a coach would do.
Look no further than Brent Venerables at OU, he was supposed to be a sure fire HC

Defense might be better but offense would still be a train wreck.

Steele's record as a head coach is pretty abysmal.

Kevin Steele was at Auburn when we didn't recruit O lineman. I know he was a defensive guy, but you'd think he'd have the stones to tell Gus that we have glaring holes in our recruiting plan. That being said, I'd take him back in a heartbeat as a DC.

Steele is
Age 64....
Baylor Record 9-36, conference record is 1-31...
He went 0-8 in 99,2000,2001 and improved to 1-7 in 2002. (LAST IN CONFERENCE for 4 straight years).
Have to admit, Harsin still looks better on paper.

The guy before Shug was worse IMO.
You could say, “worst since 1950.”

Listen I'll admit the below, and I think a lot of people were probably similar:
- I thought Steele could work. Getting a guy well regarded by the money guys who would open the checkbook and who could build a staff through connections everywhere always made sense to me. It was never a ridiculous idea.
- Despite that, I was more or less #stopthesteele (I never tweeted it or anything, but I didn't want it to happen). Partly because I didn't like us just crowning a dude our boosters wanted with a terrible HC record and a pretty short resume as elite coordinator, and partly because the PAM's who were acting as PR for the effort floated Bobo and Co. and I was immediately out on that.

I think we'd be better currently this year, but I still dont think he was a long term solution and we'd be looking for a new coach in 2024.
So honestly its probably better overall that we got Harsin - who's worse - but he's flaming out so fast we can get to the next legitimate coach sooner than we would have with Steele.

Steele as HC was a terrible idea. So was Harsin, apparently.
