Is 53 at Troy good? I would think so.

I mean Arkansas has been pretty solid the last couple of years, the more of their coaches we can get on staff the better.

Will this new offensive line coach be able to prevent opposing defenses from running straight to the point of attack once a play is called and the ball is snapped?

Regardless of who the hire is, we need someone that can bring in a couple of strong OLine recruiting classes. Gus and JB dropped the ball there.

We need to steal some of these cats that are going to Bama/Georgia and contributing immediately. I haven't researched, but to my recollection that last guy that we had contribute early was probably Braden Smith and he came in 2014.

A majority of our OLine PT has gone to transfers (Golson, James, Driscoll, Dunn, etc) or position change guys like Tega. A majority of our OLine recruits have been injury casualities or buried on the bench.

A good cautionary tale of ignoring OLine recruiting is in Tallahassee right now. That program went from a NC to 5-7 in 5 seasons mostly due to a shitty OLine play/recruiting.

Bottom line, the new guy better be a recruiting ace or Gus is in trouble...

Reading between the lines on several of the 247 articles and nuggets, Chad Morris may have wanted to move in a different direction with the OL.

Not saying it will be Fry but Morris might be pulling the strings on this process

Why in the world is Chad Morris calling the shots on assistants being hired? I can see him maybe giving Gus some input, but if Gus doesn't make this hire himself, he's an even bigger idiot than I thought.

Am I crazy here thinking Gus, the HC, should be in charge of hiring position coaches?

I like Stacy Searels resume, not sure how he's revered as a recruiter though.

We will probably hire Fry

I'm sure it'll be Fry

Which I'm leery of

But it will only make the Arkansas meltdown worse when Fry/Morris succeed at Auburn. That said, it'll ensure another round of Arkansas people obsessing about Auburn

I think everyone on the board would be fine with Steele picking defensive position coaches. I think there’s a balance there

I don’t know that Morris is actually running this process but it seems that he has some say in Grimes not being the OL coach and probably has ideas on who can run what he wants to do with the OL — which was my bigger point. That signs continue to point toward Morris directing the offense

Would like Pugh, if for no other reason than he was a mean son of a bitch when he played for Auburn and I think our OL needs some of that mentality right now.

Don't know if he's washed up now but Searles was good back in the day. But of course we're going to end up with another Gus yes man in Dustin Fry.

Gus continues to hire guys within his circle, so if the pattern holds true, its going to be Frye.

Gus respects Morris a whole lot, and it looks like Morris is having some input already on their offensive identity and needs.

I'm not going to use the Arkansas 1.5 years as my only gauge to say Frye is not a good hire.
I would look at SMU AND Clemson as Morris AND Frye worked together there too...

This tells me Gus is going to let Chad be the true OC, and not some puppet. Most HC's give their coordinators a lot of say-so in who they want as their position coaches.

Let's be honest here.......Gus also knows our OL recruiting/play has been sub-par for several years now. We have been screaming for a change. I just hope we bring in a solid coach/great recruiter.

Yes you’re crazy given the results of Gus micromanaging this stuff in the past and the results they’re of. If Chad is calling the shots here then it’s good to finally see Gus let an offensive Coordinator actually do their job. Also many OC’s at many places in the past have Brought in some of their own position coaches.

I’ve NEVER heard of Fry before last night. Doubt many of y’all have either. Why are we so sure he won’t work out. Morris is calling the plays, I guess he can have control of who he wants.
