Do OC’s and DC’s get to dictate who their positional coaches are? Absolutely not.
If they did the BBQ crew would have been gone and the 2008 season might have turned out different.

247 update on the OL search

- Name heard most is Kapilovic
- Fry as a serious candidate, as far as PM can tell, is just message board rumor
- Simmons’ Coaching inexperience is a negative
- Morris will heavily influence the decision

Seriously though, if Fry was option #1, he would have been hired yesterday or today. I see that as a positive

Colorado has signed a total of six 3* OLinemen between both the 2019 and 2020 classes. So he would fit in well with our current situation.

Kapilovic was not only the OL coach at UNC (and they had a pretty good running game), he was also OC for a while. Additionally, he worked alongside Larry Porter when Larry was their RB Coach. I understand he was considered back in 2017 when Grimes returned.

In one thread you’ll talk about how Washington State and Texas Tech are bottom dwellers and that Leach’s track record there should only be amplified.

Then in this thread you turn around and assert Colorado’s OL coach would have the same recruiting success at Auburn.

Pick a theory and stick with it. You’re playing both sides

I want Ryan Pugh for the OC position. I feel like he would connect better with recruits and I think he would do an awesome job

eta" . i meant OL coach

Come on, Rig. Regardless of my tactics you have to admit that the guy from Colorado would be an underwhelming hire. We can do better, Gus just doesn't...

OT but I'm really happy that MSU hired Mike Leach

But it would indicate a willingness to hire from outside of Gustav's comfort zone of coaches with whom he's already worked, which would be a positive.

I'm somewhat encouraged that it's taking as long as it has. Perhaps it means that an actual evaluation of potential candidates is taking place.

Hey, a guy can dream....

Also to be fair, Kapilovic was not hired until after the early signing period in 2018.

It's not easy to recruit to CU. There is not a lot of football talent in the state. CU use to recruit more from TX but going to the PAC hurt that. They now have to concentrate on CA.

FWIW a connected on the bunker says Coach Kap is a good recruiter, very technically sound, & would be a good hire.

I would take Kapilovich over Fry for sure. I like what I read about his OL at NC under Fedora. And he would not come from Gus's comfort coaches circle he has been hiring from. His resume looks better than Fry's too.

Per Phillip AU interviewed former Miss St OL coach Marcus Johnson on Tuesday. He & Kap are thought to be 2 prominent contenders for the job.

Wow, that would be a very good hire. I assumed he was going to stay in the state of Mississippi and would never be a candidate. MJ is an excellent recruiter as well.

I would be okay with Marcus Johnson. Gimme the guy that worked with Cutcliffe over the guy that worked with Fedora any day.
