Seems like Fry is not going to be liked much if it looks like he is who we settle on.
my problem with Fry is that he is very inexperienced. I want an established OL coach who can not only coach technique but also recruit.
I don't follow arky except one game a year.............because let's face it, they are Arky...but their fans were claiming he was wanting his player to get below 300 lbs.. If true, that is scary.

Arkansas Oline looked like crap recently. That’s the reason for the downvotes. But, we should expect this. No top coaches are going to come work for Gus if they have options.
I don’t buy that no top coach is going to come. Steele was a top DC.
But on offense Gus seems to only stick w players/ coaches he’s developed or of his coaching tree which seems to not help in our offensive success the last 6 years.

Still hoping we go in a different direction than Fry, just on general principles.

quote:yeah, not sure if he did this at SMU as well but he wanted Arkys OL around 280!so they’d be quicker. That shite won’t work in the SEC. Tony Franklin tried that and look what happened

Chad and Fry both routinely said they wanted the OL to be around 270-280. There’s a pic floating around somewhere that shows our OL at the beginning of the year compared to LSU. It’s almost comical how small our guys look at that weight compared to the LSU OL.
I will say that, with what he had to work with, our OL did improve this year. It wasn’t SEC caliber by any means but he did a good job of starting to fix the mess the previous OL coach created. I don’t think he’d be near as bad as some of our fans will tell you he will be. He’ll have better players to work with for one and I doubt Gus is going to let 280 lb OL fly in his system.
Now one issue I would have with him is the snap he had our center doing. It was this odd floating snap that took forever to get back and every crew that called our games pointed out. That may have been an issue with our center but hopefully he doesn’t carry it over to you guys. It was beyond awful to watch.

Thanks for that perspective.
I have no doubt Arky will make the OL a focus under Pitt.

BM says Fry, Kendall Simmons or Ryan Pugh (Troy OL/OC).
Says Grimes could have come back, but he felt the contract offered was considerable less what he wanted. Had other offers for higher pay.

Pugh would be great too. I think Simmons would do better on the trail with those rings.

My God what a cluster. No one wants to work for Malzahn. Two former players and a Chad bring in. How many have turned the job down?
This is a joke. The sooner we get rid of the bubble gum chewing clown the better.

Please hire Ryan Pugh
This is similar to hiring T Will as LB coach. Its a perfect fit

Saban and Bowden have proven it is better to recruit than actually coach. We need talent and someone who can bring it in.

Agree, and in terms of OT coaches the ones that bring in the big fish are the ones that have put a lot of names in the NFL.

Of the three listed, which one is an elite recruiter? Which one of the three has put people in the NFL?
K.Simmons might be, but no one knows that yet.

There is your first clue. Our fanbase constantly screams for change and people don't want to uproot their families if it is for a short term kind of thing.

? I would think Simmons has the edge, but it is purely speculation

Yes sure, that's why he's such a commodity among P5 schools. You would not even know the name or consider him a realistic candidate if he had not played here.

It's going to be Fry, it's the Gus way. There is no need for 8 pages of speculation because we all know Gus' coaching tree doesn't have many branches.
