I mean Arkansas has been pretty solid the last couple of years, the more of their coaches we can get on staff the better.

Seriously. Let's bring in some more of that loser stench from Arkansas! They have really been doing well up there the past 7 years.

I wish old man river would have hung it up sooner. We could have snagged Fatt Luke before UGA got him.

Same reason most people do, for Keith’s scoop.

Not me. His scoop is fine, but I need non-recruiting scoop that is not filtered through university mouthpieces as well.

Probably hard to find now that Mark Murphy isn’t giving as much scoops since the merger.

How is Matt Luke not a homerun OL coach hire?

Former HC
Good Recruiter
High Energy
Has produced NFL OLinemen as a coach

Checks all the boxes...

Ole Miss fans wanted Luke fired as OL coach before he became the figurehead to lead the transition

he has not produced NFL o-linemen, he got lucky that other recruiters brought talent like Tunsil and Little in

anyways, Auburn private jet is in DC this morning, any potential hires up there?

In my Google news feed, from New York Post. Listed Grimes as possibility on new HC Joe Judge's staff, which they say is nearly complete but composition unknown at this time. I think he retires but interesting.

quote:

J.B. Grimes: Grimes has no NFL experience in nearly four decades of coaching, but he just resigned at Auburn to “pursue other opportunities.” Mysterious. He was the offensive line coach at Mississippi State from 2004 to 2008, overlapping with Judge’s final playing days and early coaching days.

OCs and DCs at 90% of the schools out there determine position coaches.

Ok then, I honestly did not know that.

I always assumed the HC was in charge of hiring assistants. I get that change was needed re: Gus' micromanaging, but I was under the assumption HCs hire assistants and position coaches then let them do their thing.

If Chad's assistant hires at Arkansas are any indication of his ability to spot coaching talent, then I'm not so sure Gus shouldn't be the one doing the hiring.

Idk, I guess we will see how it plays out.

Let’s not forget Chad didn’t even get 2 full seasons at Arkansas and took over a cupboard that was completely bare and full of players that weren't recruited to play in a spread offense.

Sure the coaches deserve some blame. But so does Bielema’s staff.

I could see Grimes in the NFL. No recruiting, just coaching.

It’s almost like every coach at this level has experienced highs and lows. Wild take.

So do we have a timetable of when a hire might be made?

I’d guess before the end of the dead period

You didn’t know it, because it is wrong. Look around the league at any new coordinator hires. How many had free reign to bring in any position coach they wanted? None of them, especially if they are on the same side of the ball as the HC.

Do the coordinators get a say? Absolutely. Do OC’s and DC’s get to dictate who their positional coaches are? Absolutely not.
