That was my guess yesterday as soon as we hired Christian Robinson.

As for thoughts… I’m kinda emotionally drained with the football program right now.

I'm good with it. Let Harsin do his thing. No idea if it ultimately works but it looks like he's aiming to do it on his own terms. If it doesn't work, we'll hire another coach in 2 years.

I can actually see some benefit, in this new NIL environment, to hiring a group of coaches that are loyal to the HC.

But the bottom line is he's going to do it his way and we'll get to see if it works or not.

I am not upset. Ga St, MSU and USC were absolutely embarrassing from Mason. No clue about this new guy. Mason's last three seasons have been horrific. Two as a HC and this past year as DC. We shite on Bobo, but Mason is worse.

What I don't get is if things were as they are rumored to have been, why the wait until 1/21 to make this move?

Not sure what is contract said. Could have been a situation where if he left he would have to pay a buyout.

Harsin may have been giving Mason the opportunity to leave rather than be Bobo’d, and OSU might be Mason’s first realistic option.

This is where I am at.

I am not as disappointed about Mason leaving as others. He had some good games. He had some pull your hair out games. I said in another thread.............I want a DC who likes to pressure the QB. That was not a high priority for Mason.

We should have been 10-3 this year. Bobo an Mason can be blamed for our actual record

Harsin won’t be here after the 2023 season, IMO. If Allen Greene is going to leave that needs to happen soon so we can have an AD in place for the next coaching search.

Pretty much all that needs to be said. People acting like Mason was amazing are ridiculous, but so are those defending Harsin and saying he needs 4-5 years to turn it around.

Before the Bama game I personally wanted Mason gone equally as much as I wanted Bobo gone. Overall Mason was solid in terms of scoring defense, but I hated the bend don't break garbage we played. We were 27th in scoring defense, but 61st in total yardage allowed (and that was propped up by the early cupcake games, so our SEC game numbers were pretty ugly). So that scoring defense rating is a little misleading I think.

Mason is pretty much middle of the road in terms of DC coaches we've had the last 20 years or so. If we had fired Mason right after the season and hired a good DL coach right after that, most probably don't bat an eye. It just looks bad due to the timing, the poor offensive portal action, and the meh DL coach hire.

Nope, you blame Harsin because he is the HC, he hired them both, and the buck stops with him.

No doubt Harsin has blame. I am saying this in context that losing Mason isn't a death blow. He was terrible.

I’m more ticked about the fact that we lost good players on defense because they weren’t fitting masons scheme, and now the guy up and bails, or run off by harsin. This has been a crappy first year for harsin.

... it'll be telling if he can't find a better landing spot

I think most are more upset about the optics of losing your DC to a Big12 program than actually losing Mason’s coaching abilities.

I didn't think Mason was the best candidate for the job but am not enthused about Schmedding either. But I am just an alum and don't have a voice. If this works it works. If not we can look forward to more of the same and wait for the powers that be to replace the coaching staff again. Hope we have a new athletic director when that happens.
