Good, if word is true that Schmedding called plays for the iron bowl then I'm good with that. Feels like Harsin was forced to get SEC Coodinators/assitants and this should work out better

I'm good with it. Let Harsin do his thing. No idea if it ultimately works but it looks like he's aiming to do it on his own terms. If it doesn't work, we'll hire another coach in 2 years.

Right there with you. I want a coach that has autonomy to make these decisions. Not the Auburn of old that has Bobby Lowder, etc pulling strings behind the curtain. Obviously boosters, etc will be involved to some extent, because they're footing the bill for a lot of these salaries, but let the coach run the program how he wants to. If he fails, find someone else.

We'll never get anyone worth a damn if we don't hand them the keys to the car at some point and let them do it their way.

Dukes @ 247 said that players told him Mason called plays and Schmedding signaled them.

I don’t think that rumor was true. He did say that they’ve always used Boise terminology for play calling so at least there will be consistency for players as Schmedding takes over

I'm fine with Mason leaving.. I called for it all year long.

I think promoting Schmedding is.. Its some Boise St good ol boys stuff imo. We didn't conduct interviews, we didn't hire the best guy available.. we hired Bryan Harsins friend.

For those curious.. Schmedding was DC for a little while at Boise St. They returned tons of talent including their sack leader.. their Ints and sack numbers dropped under Schmedding, plays a soft coverage, and gave up lots of 3rd downs.. so basically the exact same defense we ran this year. I don't expect the scheme to change.

I don't know enough about Schmedding to have an opinion. I thought our defense took a small step back from what it was under Steele, covid year excluded, so losing Mason doesn't really move my needle much. I'll do what I always try to do which is be optimistic but open minded to being wrong. With all that said I do worry about the optics of it all.

They did go 10-2 and 8-0 in conference. You would have total Mason's last 4 seasons to get that win total.

Looks like they lost by 3 to BYU and got stomped by Washington in their bowl game. They did beat FSU in Tallahassee to start the year, but that was a 5-7 FSU team.

Boise was 33rd in overall defense that year and tied for 31st in points, giving up 21.9/game. Pass D was 77th though, but I believe most of the teams in their conference are playing some sort of pass heavy spread offense. So, overall not incredible, but not all that bad either in terms of total D and points allowed given the type of offenses they go up against.

Mason's defense only gave up 30+ points to uga and msu. Mind you, we were running a brand new defense that most of these kids never played in high school or were recruited for.

Our offensive minded HC took over play calling in the bowl game and scored 13 points. He's calling plays going forward. I think we're making changes to the wrong side of the ball. Defense lost us one maybe two games. Offensive lost the rest.

2019 had Marlon, Brown, Big Kat, Noah, Dinson, Tutt, Britt, Javaris, etc

2020 and 2021 didn’t.

Can’t maintain team performance if recruiting doesn’t stay up to par.

TJ Finley
Harsin's biggest misstep so far. Davis must of been Gus's.

I mean, he called plays that left probably 3-4 touchdowns on the field that the QB missed. Hence him bringing in two more transfers at the position.

If people think Harsin’s play calling was the problem… they don’t know $hit about football.

WDE!!!

Tank and Hunter combined for only 21 rushes. Tank had 96 yards on 16 carries. If the QB isn't getting it done, replace him or find another way to score. That's all on the coach/OC. Full stop.
