My mind drifts to why Harsin had him do that. I didn’t expect Mason to stay forever but it’s interesting that they almost prepared for this scenario from the beginning.
My guess.. Mason only signed a 2 year contract. Schmedding was his guy all along and he was going to promote him after Masons 2nd year. They used the terminology so they didn't have to relearn everything again so soon.

My guess is just that Harsin is just a control freak and wants to understand everything happening on the field. But with rumors (RumorU) of a staff split happening and pressure on Harsin to bring in non-Boise guys it’s way more interesting to visit these rumors as we see the non-Boise guys bail

Yea, I have no doubt there is some truth to this. He clearly wants things done his way and only his way. Just knowing how our people are, easy to assume we pressured pretty good to force some certain hires, not that Harsin didn't go along with them or anything.

Either way, if he wants to go this route and do everything his way, i'm all for it. I'd much rather a coach sink or swim his way than us try and force success. Hell, look at what we did with Gus. We tried everything we could to force him to adapt, but ultimately all it did was string things along.

I'd agree with this. Hell, I wouldn't have been surprised if Mason signed a one year contract when they announced we hired him

This right here is what I’m about. I like the process he says he wants in place and the culture.

Now it’s up to him to prove he can. All a coach can ask for is give me the freedom to put my system in. I’m just not ready to jump out of the plane like so many here have chosen to do. That’s their prerogative as well.

I hope this works. Losing sucks. If it doesn't, I hope we have another AD in place before we run off Harsin.

Once again ....the myth of the southern hire to have a foothold on recruiting is exactly that a myth. The kid being recruited wants a solid foundation with the possibility of climbing the ladder and compete in the playoffs.

Hiring FAILED Coordinators in the SEC does not provide a solid foundation for anyone to build on.

Harsin followed the advice and experienced how easy it is for those not in a football stadium to make a wrong read not only on the field but on the recruiting trail as well.

If someone else comes in later, he needs to tell this faction of idiots, during the talks for a contract ..."This is my yard and I mow it how I wish."

I didn’t want him to adapt. I wanted him to keep using dual threat qb’s the way he used Cam and Marshal. Why he decided to recruit anything but a DTQB, sans Malik Willis, (who didn’t play) after all the success is beyond my comprehension. I wanted the opposite of adapt. I wanted keep doing what got us in two NC games. That’s why I turned on Gus.

Referring to coaching. He adapted his offense all on his own.

This! I couldn’t have said it better myself.

My concerns with Harsin as a leader began when he hired Bobo and Mason. I'm pulling for him to get this thing out of the ditch now doing it his way. He should have done that from the beginning

In retrospect, this should have been a warning sign. When you hire a coach, especially one from an entirely different region and already a head coach, you would expect he would already have a short list of coaches he would want to work with. Bobo seemed like he may have fit into that box, coming from the same conference. Mason was just a straight out grab a name type hire.

I remember when we hired Tubbs, he brought nearly everyone from his Ole Miss staff, and off they went. Chizik had his staff together pretty quickly as well. A head coach needs guys that know what his vision and process is. Last year was more like a pot luck staff put together on the fly, with names we recognized but our head coach didn’t really know. It actually seems like a staff Steel would have hired had he got the gig.

Who knows if the hires were from the powers above or Harsin, but he better get it together and get it right this time, he won’t get another.

That’s really gonna screw up the Auburn haters wet dream if that happens (which it likely will, and the haters will then proceed to blame anyone but themselves).

You morons thinking that we should fire a HC one or two years into his stint.

That is a hell of a way to attract the next HC.

They don’t understand that. They just want to give everyone who comes in here 2 years to satisfy them alone haha. It’s kinda funny to watch them melt down over nothing

Believe that was forced upon him. Sure seems that way by whom he is putting in place now as their replacements. Brumbaugh may also be a force.

I am for letting him sink or swim on his own and not force a round peg into a square hole as it never works well.
