Where the frick is the delusion coming from that Schmedding called plays? It has been addressed so many times he did not call plays for the IB. Do I know if Schmedding will be a good DC? Absolutely not. Can Schmedding recruit better than Mason? Doesn’t seem like it. But hell we are riding into next year regardless if Schmedding is the DC or if Ted Roof is the DC.

I want the defense that we saw in the bama game.

Our defenders played like 2004 Auburn football titans. They wanted that game. Early 4th quarter when Bama was starting to figure them out they made another huge play.

And really, if not for our offensive HC and Tank hanging them out to dry, that defense would be remembered as one of the best IronBowl defensive performances of all time.

Thanks to newfound Mason inspiration I’m energized to defend him some more.

I dig it. I like schmedding and Harsin is acting like a HNIC. Only room for one alpha on a coaching staff. Let em know

what happened was bama hit a few really good runs and Mason completely stopped sending pressure. He went away from what had worked the entire game.

We had front 4 players like TD getting pressure on Young all game. It made no sense to keep blitzing when they could house a slant on any given play.

The backup OT they brought in helped stop the onslaught as well.

In the bama game? Maybe I'll have to rewatch but I remember a lot of our pressure coming from blitz packages not rush 3 or 4 and drop 7.

Regardless I thought our defensive scheme got better as the season went on. Against PSU there were downs where we rushed 3 or 4 and their QB had 5+ seconds to throw.

Edit: OK I went back and watched a highlight cutup. Blitzes were definitely critical for applying pressure.

11 times we got pressure resulting in a sack or errant throw
6 were designed blitzes (LB/C/S involvement) - 1 time a spy stepped up to apply pressure
3 times just our front four

There were rumblings earlier in the season that the coordinators and the Boise' boys did not agree on much. It is why I felt we would lose at least 1 of the coordinators

The question is do we have to pay Mason. From what I understand the answer is yes (Reduced by what OSU or whomever pays him).

If he left on his own I can't imagine we're paying him.

JGT is at least one reporter who reported boise boys vs non boise dynamic.

The portion of the nugget that Dukes posted on IB playcalling that gets lost was the fact that Mason installed his defense with terminology that they used at Boise State. That’s wild to me.

Definitely makes the alignment issues and confusion getting lined up make more sense

That would imply he didn’t leave totally voluntarily

Perhaps.

My mind drifts to why Harsin had him do that. I didn’t expect Mason to stay forever but it’s interesting that they almost prepared for this scenario from the beginning.

My guess is just that Harsin is just a control freak and wants to understand everything happening on the field. But with rumors (RumorU) of a staff split happening and pressure on Harsin to bring in non-Boise guys it’s way more interesting to visit these rumors as we see the non-Boise guys bail
