Bro, there were zero wrinkles in the offense, nothing remotely close to creative, and if there ever was a time you use your second QB it was today. Gus is a fricking idiot.

I was not crazy about the way the offense worked tonight obviously but there were so many issues, Im not sure how anyone can sit here and say the play calling was the issue. You can only call plays that your team can execute. Everyone wants Gus to call middle of the field passes and quick passes, etc. Nix can barely execute a screen pass and when he tries, there are two rushers who are unblocked coming at him. You cant just call plays that "should be " called and hope they work.

Everyone is bitching about running up the middle but our two biggest plays tonight were runs up the middle. I agree that its not working which is why he should be gone. I get that. It is him responsibility. Im just saying firing him wont fix the issues we have right now. The majority or our issues are players not making plays they should. And yes, that is his responsibility even if I dont think it is his fault.

Going to throw a name out there, although I could write an essay about why Gus isn't going anywhere until 2021 and how he's fallen apart.

Steve Sarkisian. I know his personal past, the drinking, and HC record is mediocre. But a) I think he'd take the job; b) he knows Steele and I think would keep him at DC; c) could recruit across the country, is recruiting kids in southeast rn; d) lots of NFL and NCAA OC experience, was a QB himself; e) would prob bring in a wild O (Kiffin? lol) and likes to put up points; f) Bonus, he knows what Saban likes to do and could use that against him. Don't think BOT would approve non-Auburn Man, though.

Just something I thought about, although Gus isn't going anywhere.

ETA: drinking, got my letters wrong should've used numbers, trying to not make a post about Gus

But its almost like he totally got away from it. I think it was partially ego and some was outside noise crying for a balanced attack. I personally could care less about a balanced attack. That offense was unstoppable and I dont believe for a second we coud not have built on that for years and years

Prime Example:

In the early 70's Tom Osborne at Nebraska ran balanced attacks but then switched to the Power-I Option to utilize dual threat QBs. After that, Nebraska became a powerhouse....he ran it for 20 years until he retired after the 1997 Season where the Split the National Title with Michigan. It was his 3rd NC in 4 years. Then Frank Solich replaced him and also ran that offense.
BUT the people at Nebraska ran him off because they wanted to "throw more" even tho Solich was averaging 10 wins a season.
Now...how many 10 win seasons have Nebraska had since 2001?

I'm saying all that to say this...Gus had a great offense running the read option and should have never deviated. Recruit great runners and teach them to pass. He has that sitting on his bench right now. We should be averaging 300 yards rushing and about 185 passing. But his stubborness will be his demise...

Our style of zone read with the occasional play action bomb was a tough offense and unique.

Teams stacked the box and we still got 4-6 yards a run with the potential to break for 10+.

I can't think of many times we were actually stopped. Slowed down, maybe, but not stopped.

Tre doesn't get enough credit for 2013. He always fell forward and required a lot of attention which opened up Nick to make a read. That said, Tre in this current offense would be a horrible waste

OL got a good push at least 50% of the time back then. They're just soft now, big enough but need an attitude.

So let me get this straight.

Everyone is melting over a game 90% were saying we would lose and lose badly at in LSU?

This season is not over. If AU beats GA and AL, I will be thrilled with how the year turned out.

So why don't we all just have a drink and calm the frick down.

If we can do that, we should’ve beat Florida and LSU.

We couldn’t.

Our offense has looked mostly pathetic against:

Oregon
Tulane
Kent State
Florida
LSU

And the A&M game was so vanilla that our starting QB barely mustered 100 passing yards.

We don’t have a modern offense that can keep our great defense off the field.

Our defense played their asses off. Our offensive game plan was to throw jump balls to 18 all day. Same shite different day.

This is true

They predicted a much bigger loss and yet are acting shocked that we did in fact lose on the road to the current #3 team in the country.

And keep playing the guy who couldn't even throw an accurate pass that would've ended up a pick 6.

Think about that for a minute......he sucked so bad, that if he was slightly better, LSU would've beaten us by a bigger margin.

Thank God for unanswered prayers?

Does this mean we're supposed to embrace losing?

Once again, it's not that we lost: its how we lost. We had the same offensive issues we've had for a few years now with no indication Gus is going to change anything. Gus' stubbornness is what we're upset about.

I predicted we’d win because of the defense. Our defense held them 27 points below their average.

We could’ve won if Gus held up his end of the deal.

You did that a long time ago. Long before you knew what AU football was. Don’t tie the two together.

Back in 2014 everyone bitched about not having a defense. They wanted 7-3 games etc

We have that team now and they prefer something different.

We would have won if the game was called like it was a few years ago. The power defense is being neutralized by allowing offenses to hold like crazy. We need to start holding as well.

You never accept mediocrity and that as a whole is what Auburn has become.

Have a nice day, Rocky.
