As of Fall 2025 for undergraduates only...
56.5% of Auburn's 28,953 undergrads were from the state of Alabama.
11.2% from Georgia
4.9% from Florida
3.8% from Texas
3.5% from Tennessee
2.6% from North Carolina
76.7% are from in-state or a neighboring state.
If you compare Auburn's enrollment to our rival across the state, Bama has more kids from each of the 50 states + DC except for the following:
Alabama: Auburn has more in-state undergrads (16,354 to Bama's 15,390).
Georgia: Auburn still attracts more kids from neighboring Georgia (3,250 to 2,649).
North Carolina: Auburn has 757 NC undergrads to Bama's 720.
District of Columbia: Auburn has a surprisingly large number of DC kids (41 vs just 15 at Bama).
At Bama, 1 out of every 6 undergrads is from either Illinois, California, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, or Massachusetts.
Those states make up just 1 out of every 16 kids at Auburn.

Having talked with people at both, this has absolutely had a major impact on the general student body culture of both schools. The flip side from Alabama's perspective, i'm sure they are enjoying getting ~2x at least more in tuition for those out of state students

One less out of state undergrad - my oldest graduated this past May! I'm going to miss those regular trips to Auburn that I've been making the past 4 years...

One common factor with AU and UA students; they both applied to Auburn.

Auburn is one of the last remaining mostly conservative universities. The guys and gals at the top aren’t. Pushing / Teaching propaganda

I'm sure it's somewhat cyclical, but doesn't Bama have a history of recruiting from the northeast? I seem to remember reading that in the early part of the 20th century Bama activity recruited Jewish students from the eastern seaboard because many of the northeastern schools put quotas on Jewish enrollment.

Gina Haspel gave a speech at Auburn University when director of the CIA.
I have a friend, RIP who worked for "the company". I asked him what Haspel was doing at Auburn.
He said "Conservative, God, country and the American way, with a great tech school......she wasnt speaking.....she was recrutin son, you would be surprised how many Auburn folks are at "the company"".

Biggest difference is that bama will pay top OOS students to come there, and will make it cheap for upper quartile students, affordable for 26-50th percentile.
At Auburn, if you are OOS and qualify for the highest scholarship, the Presidential scholarship, it is still cheaper to send your kids to places like Texas and ATM. Ask me how I know.....
