What is better about today's college?

I guess the biggie is that you can go to a place like UGA for free.
I guess facilities are off the charts.

But at what costs? Seems like you should be able to go to your SEC school without going through a gauntlet in high school or potentially having to pay a ridiculous amount of money.

It's just weird that a bunch of UGA people end up at Auburn because they can't get into UGA (due to hope scholarship competition). I don't like it.

The cross section of students (as opposed to a metro area blob) and the allegiance seems like it would make 70s, 80s early 90s better.

Oh well, the money costs are just stupid. Government sucks.
AI will just do these kids' jobs anyways.

This will be unpopular here, but a lot of why it’s financially very difficult to go to a state school like Auburn or Alabama these days started with Reagan.

Student loans - or at least ones of the magnitude we see today - didn’t used to be a thing, but states have shifted the burden *from* the taxpayer to the student and he’s really the guy that got that ball rolling.

I got a friend toting the note as much as he can on his daughter working on (postgraduate) PA school.

The government reduced the amount she is able to borrow despite the program is very exclusive and costs bigly-around 120,000 total. Most parents would not be able to do this. For most kids they would hit a dead end.

There is no longer working your way up by your boot straps outside of trades.

They told a story at my orientation about a student from Lakeland. Fl tuition was expensive so they sent their daughter to Auburn to be “at a good northern school”

They didn't used to be a thing until the Gov took over the lending starting in 92 but it was still tame then until the push for everyone to go to college. Then you had the wars of how much better is my campus than yours. Dorms etc. That brought in the gov money for all. The gains in between out of state AU from Mid 80:s to mid 2010"s was about 4k all in to 48k all in a year. 2010 was when the gov took it all over. I remember in the 80s you could get a loan but you had to go to a bank and they treated it like any other investment.

At least that will be worth it for the individual.

Job security, great pay, and flexibility when she wants it.

Even here when all is said and done, a lot of these benefits will come from the gubment.
