Vanover doesn't provide anything right now but he sure as hell needs to become more aggressive
Yes he does. This game is just him regressing to the mean. His results in this game ARE him being aggressive by shooting the ball way too much. He needs to do what he does well and I think he will in the future.
I think he just pressed too hard this game trying to make up for Smith being out.
As far as Hill goes, yeah he was great defensively but was a complete liability on the offensive end. Vanover is a more balanced player. I was comparing their value to the team not really their specific skills.

There’s a lot of people in this thread who either don’t understand basketball or haven’t payed attention to the type of player vanover is. He’s not a 5 he’s a stretch 4. He isn’t supposed to be the guy who bangs down low because he’s not very good at that

He wasn’t any good at the 4 either. His balls need to drop soon or they never will... and it will be a shame because he’s been given the stage.
If Moody is our 4 that speaks volumes about the inept size on the bench.
Honestly wouldn’t mind hearing that Muss rips Jackson till he leaves the team. Man the frick up or leave. Find some semi-athletic size on campus that will at least commit to giving 100%.

think he has the potential to be a really good player for us. It does boggle my mind that he can't finish at the rim when he's 7'3
I'm assuming you haven't watched many games.
He couldn't start for UALR.

That's what it boils down to. He just had to play angry. He probably left 6-8 points on the board by trying to avoid contact in the paint and missing awkward layups. Just dunk on their arse, man.

At 7'3" a.) You can't jump very high and b.) You don't need to anyway.
He is an asset to the team. That said, it wasn't one of his days today.

He’s not a 5 he’s a stretch 4.

Nobody should think Vanover is a 5, but against size he’s now getting outplayed by Devo and Moody in the paint.
He’s timid.
Williams and Henderson need his minutes against TN. I don’t think he scored a single FG today, and Tillman completely intimidated him when he ventured into the paint.
Some players push back, and some just shrink away.

I've advocated for Williams all year. I really like his game. Would love to see him take a bigger role in Smith's absence.

Williams has more upside if he lets the game come to him.

When we start 4 guards and him he’s got no choice but to be our 5.

But you can jump still, right?
Just checking.

All I know is, that kid needs to be doing fricking leg press twice a day, every day.
I've never seen someone move so slow on a major Division 1 sports team.
He's basically nothing more than a giant 3 point shooter who literally cannot run the floor or play even below average defense. It's horrendous.
I first noticed it against UCA, andthen Dykes pointed it out against Auburn, but the way he moves in quick sand, we're literally playing 4 on 5 for every single transition, which equates to about 1/3 of the game.
The experiment is over. Muss is pissed. I hope he benches the shite out of him. We can go back to small ball for all I care as long as we can run tbe fricking floor correctly.

I just don’t understand how/why he just flings the ball out of bounds so much when he tries to drive to the rim. It’s like it has to bounce up so high to get to him when he dribbles that he just loses control of it. He’s been decent for the occasional putback and block but if he’s not hitting the three then he’s been a bigger liability than asset. I do think he has value against smaller teams and can actually dominate and alter shots against some but there aren’t a whole lot of those in the SEC. Even our team last year I think he would have done well against.

He is very timid for his size. He has to be more aggressive or he will be another transfer.

Holy Overreactions Batman!
He had a bad game. That happens.
Sure he has flaws in his game but he's had a pretty good season for us so far. When he was blocking a ton of shots people on here couldn't wait to line up and kiss his elongated behind.
How about we slow our roll a bit and see how he does over the course of a season before we declare him to be the absolute worst player of all time and a boil on the backside of Arkansas basketball?

He was doing well in those games against much lesser quality opponents. Exactly my point. He's a waste of an SEC scholarship.

it isnt about named opponents, it is about matchups period.
