The thing that gets me is how anyone on the offensive side of the ball could watch Penix last season and look at that system, and then immediately want to leave.

Defense? Sure, I get it, especially with Saban being gone.

But a QB or skill position on offense? It just makes no sense.

Agree completely. Heck, for that matter, even the offensive linemen ought to be excited; Washington had the top o-line in the country in 2023.

After reading up on Mack for a few hours I am no longer upset. Mack looks to be a better QB than Simpson and I think if he were a senior year he would be rated as high or higher than Sayin. I'm talking myself into to saying I'd rather have Mack than Sayin. Mack has a year of KDB's offense under his belt already. I'm at peace.

Is it about being able to brag about star ratings or who the current coach and his staff think can better execute what they want to do?

That's sort of my mindset.

If you've been the QB coach at say, Duke, and your concepts revolve around a non-prolific but efficient Daniel Jones type, what are you going to do if you inherit Jalen Milroe?

Sometimes guys just aren't the right fit.

I hated recruiting ratings when I had to cover them and I hate them now. They are subjective numbers designed to get either cash or clicks from obsessive compulsives. A star rating doesn’t tell you a damn thing about what’s in a player’s heart, guts and gonads. And you can have “5 star” physical tools but if you don’t have those attributes too, you’re worthless.

We've come full circle so now Sayin isn't the great talent we all hoped for the last couple years.

No one is saying he doesn’t have talent. They’re saying he might not be a good fit for what our coach wants to do. And that IMO should take precedence over star ratings.

This is an unexpected blow
I just don’t get this.

We’ve seen guys who have been teammates for years, who are comfortable at Alabama, leave. Tons of them.

Y’all really didn’t expect elite guys in the 2024 class to go choose more stable situations to start their careers?

"Because Tim Watts said he was. No reason for Tim to lie about it."

This proves without a doubt that you are a troll. You don't even know his first name!!!

Well, to be fair, I don't understand your first scenario either. I mean, I realize these guys are leaving for more money than I'll make in several years, but at the same time they're leaving behind teammates and a brotherhood. Although I guess I have the benefit of decades of experience and regrets that they don't have.

But the 2024 class, specifically, SHOULD feel pretty good about things, in my opinion. Apart from physical maturity (in some instances), they'll be on a completely level playing field with everyone else. They'd be in the best position they'll ever have to compete and earn playing time at a major college program. Even those transferring now to Georgia or Texas or Ohio State will be behind the early enrollees at those schools, because the early enrollees got to go through bowl practices with their teams.

It is incredible. Also, Deboer has a type and can't adapt. That may be true given the stars leaving.

I simply do not buy that DeBoer told the the best QB in the 2024 class that he wasn't a fit after he said in his introductory press conference that he's about building the offense around what the players can do.

The most likely answer is Sayin told DeBoer he was out and the first thing that happened after that meeting was DeBoer contacting Mack. It's great that Mack gave him a commit on the spot if my hunch is correct. He's bought in on this coaching staff. Fantastic! QB more than most positions needs to be a guy who believes in the project. Mack seems like he's a believer.

But the suggestion that DeBoer showed a consensus 5-star QB the door is laughable.

Seems more likely in the light of this new day that Mack was brought in BECAUSE Sayin was leaving, not vice versa. At the very least he was strongly considering it. There's no way Mack commits last night and Sayin is in the portal at sunrise this morning otherwise.

God forbid we support and cheer-on our starting QB.

Milroe has 1.5m reasons to love BAMA.
If he's not the starter, and his NIL dries up at, he'll hit the portal.

My guess is that Milroe has played his last down at BAMA.

Yep, went from going to be a starter his first year to a complete bust that we are glad Alabama replaced with a 3 star.

If Austin Mack can become Mac(k) daddy pt 2 then I don't give a shite about Sayin...man the potential with his name, though. Hate losing that the most tbf.

Mack already wears no. 10 btw

This was definitely not a guarantee... and highly unlikely.

You should. Mack actually won a title in a much tougher division in high school. The only reason he isn't a household name is he didn't play his Sr year. He's been learning DeBoer's offense. This is a no-brainer. Mack is going to be the starter this season.
